Open Source Software Engineer for Applied Projects
$100 - $150 per hourSaidGig
This role focuses on designing and executing evaluations and test suites for coding tasks across multiple programming languages, analyzing system behavior on real-world use cases, and communicating findings to research teams to drive improvements in open source projects with global reach. Key Responsibilities
- Design and oversee creation of evaluations for a wide range of coding tasks in JavaScript, TypeScript, Python, Java, and C.
- Develop test cases that accurately assess system performance across diverse engineering scenarios.
- Analyze system behavior on real-world user use cases to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
- Document and communicate evaluation results to research and engineering teams to support continued development and optimization.
- Active, high-quality presence on GitHub or a similar platform, with frequent contributions to leading open source projects within the last 12 months.
- Deep expertise in one or more of the following languages: Python, Java, C, JavaScript, TypeScript.
- Strong familiarity with widely used libraries, frameworks, and tooling in your language or languages of choice.
- Solid understanding of software architecture, performance tuning, and scalable coding patterns.
- Experience collaborating in distributed, asynchronous teams.
- Ability to identify contribution opportunities independently and execute improvements with minimal oversight.
- Comfortable using Git, CI/CD systems, and participating in open-source governance workflows.
- Remote engagement.

- Must have an established record of recent open source contributions, demonstrated via GitHub or similar.
- Must be able to perform work remotely and collaborate asynchronously across time zones.
