Location: Irving, TX
Duration: 3+ Months (Possibility of Extension)
Shift: Night Shift - 2:00 AM to 10:30 AM CST, Wednesday through Sunday Position Overview We are seeking a detail-oriented Lab Assistant to support daily laboratory operations in a fast-paced clinical laboratory environment. The ideal candidate will perform routine laboratory functions with precision and accuracy, assisting laboratory professionals while ensuring efficient specimen processing, quality control, and compliance with safety standards. The ideal candidate will perform routine laboratory functions with precision and accuracy, assisting laboratory professionals while ensuring efficient specimen processing, quality control, and compliance with safety standards. Key Responsibilities
- Sort, receive, and process laboratory specimens.
- Perform routine instrument maintenance on designated laboratory equipment.
- Centrifuge specimens and prepare samples for testing.
- Print additional labels and maintain accurate records, including temperature logs and department documentation.
- Store, retrieve, and track specimens as required.
- Prepare reagents and/or media for laboratory testing.
- Prepare specimens at workstations, including:
- Building worklists
- Aliquoting samples into specimen cups
- Checking specimens for clots and fibrin
- Inoculation and slide preparation
- Perform assigned Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) activities.
- Monitor and resolve pending specimen lists.
- Locate and track missing samples.
- Decontaminate laboratory work areas and maintain a clean work environment.
- Conduct weekly radioactive wipe tests.
- Maintain departmental records and files.
- Change gas cylinders as needed.
- Follow all laboratory safety protocols, PPE requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
- Utilize laboratory information systems and computer applications effectively.
- Properly dispose of biohazardous materials.
- Complete required training programs and competency assessments.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Medical Assistant training is a plus.
- Coursework in Math and Science preferred.
- No prior laboratory experience required.
- Entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities efficiently.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to quickly learn and retain new information.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with coworkers and provide excellent service to internal and external customers.
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to work with laboratory information systems.
