Specimen Technician - Hospital

Job Description Position: Specimen Technician – Hospital, Covington, GA – Monday to Friday, 10:30 AM to 7:00 PM. Pay: $17.20+ per hour, with potential annual performance bonus. Salary based on skills, experience, education, and certifications. Role Summary: The Hospital Specimen Preparation Technician (HSPT) prepares patient specimens from hospital clients for submission to Quest Diagnostics facilities and Rapid Response Laboratories. The HSPT works independently with minimal direction and must be flexible for weekends, holidays, on‑call, and overtime. Responsibilities Prepare patient specimens for hospital clients and arrange pick‑ups by couriers. Represent Quest Diagnostics through positive daily client interactions (face‑to‑face and/or telephone). Prepare and arrange all stat testing needs, research pending results, alert Hospital IT to communication failures, and troubleshoot incoming calls to the Hospital Lab from Quest Diagnostics facilities. Demonstrate proficiency in test ordering policies, procedures, specimen requirements, Care360, and compliance/legal requirements. Troubleshoot and solve client issues related to specimen, testing, and billing. Communicate and collaborate effectively with the Hospital Lab Manager, Quest Diagnostics sales team, and other organization functions. Relay client concerns to Quest Diagnostics supervisor and sales; participate in sales/operations review of the account. Communicate information regarding problem‑solving with specimens, test cancellations, testing requirements, and billing with hospital staff (phlebotomy, outpatient draw centers, laboratory managers, department supervisors, IT Analysts, physicians, nurses, and pathologists). Develop understanding of company processes and client expectations. Understand the compliance policies related to test ordering. Research test‑ordering information on translation tables, computer systems, and service directories. Understand the relationship between test(s) ordered and specimen received. Complete all required written documentation legibly and within the assigned timeframe. Perform other duties as assigned. Preferred Work Experience Medical background including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory. Previous laboratory, customer service, or hospital experience. Skills Demonstrated data entry skills to effectively utilize both Quest Diagnostics and hospital client systems.
