Process Engineer

Industry: Advanced Manufacturing / Surface Engineering Job Summary We are seeking a hands-on Process Engineer to support manufacturing operations involving advanced surface treatment, coating, heat treatment, and metallurgical processes. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a production environment, strong mechanical/materials engineering fundamentals, and the ability to work closely with production, R&D, quality, and applications engineering teams. This position will be responsible for developing and documenting manufacturing processes, supporting production, designing fixturing and masking, troubleshooting equipment and processes, and driving continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities Learn and support advanced surface treatment and coating processes, including Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) , magnetron sputtering, cathodic arc processes, nitriding, thermal diffusion, and heat treatment. Review incoming customer jobs and develop appropriate process instructions for production. Work directly with production personnel to ensure proper setup and processing of customer components. Design and develop fixtures, tooling, and masking solutions for production applications. Collaborate with R&D to develop new processes and successfully transition them into production. Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and process documentation . Review manufacturing nonconformances and work with engineering and quality teams to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. Troubleshoot manufacturing equipment and assist in verifying proper equipment operation. Read, interpret, and create engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation . Support quality initiatives and maintain compliance with applicable AS9100, ISO 9001, and NADCAP requirements. Work with applications engineering to evaluate the technical feasibility of new customer projects. Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, quality improvement, and manufacturing efficiency . Maintain compliance with company safety procedures, OSHA requirements, and applicable quality standards. Perform additional engineering projects and assignments as required. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Materials Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering , or a closely related field. 3–5 years of engineering experience in a production/manufacturing environment. Experience with SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD/modeling software . Working knowledge of manufacturing processes and engineering principles. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and technical reports . Working knowledge of vacuum furnace equipment and controls . Strong problem-solving, analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with production, engineering, R&D, and quality teams. Leadership experience or demonstrated ability to lead technical/manufacturing activities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Ability to work hands-on in a manufacturing/production environment. Preferred Qualifications Experience with surface coatings, PVD, CAPVD, MSPVD, or metallurgical processing . Knowledge of nitriding, carburizing, thermal diffusion, and heat-treatment processes . Experience with aerospace, defense, automotive, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments. Familiarity with NADCAP, AS9100, or ISO 9001 quality systems. Experience with continuous improvement, root-cause analysis, and manufacturing process optimization.
