Behavior Technician

Reports To: Student Special Services Administrator

Unit Classification: Prof Tech

Duties and responsibilities:

• Provide one-to-one skills support for students in special education in a variety of areas including, but not limited to adaptive skills, speech, language, communication, vocational, behavior, play and cognitive.
• Implements a behavior analysis treatment plan under the supervision of a licensed behavior analyst or a licensed assistant behavior analyst.
• Implement behavior intervention plans.
• Assist in a wide variety of assessments and methods of data collection.
• Receive direct coaching and supervision from a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst.
• Collaborate with the students' multi-disciplinary team.
• Maximize student and staff safety while using de-escalation strategies during times of student escalation.
• Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

• Completion of the required 40-hour Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) training aligned to the BACB RBT Task List. Proof of completion (certificate or official documentation from the training provider) must be submitted at the time of application.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet student needs. Work location and schedule dependent upon caseload/s and assigned by Student Special Services administrator. The workday may start as early as 7:00 a.m. and end as late as 5:00 p.m.
• Experience in working with students in formal and informal activities and instructional settings.
• Specific training, course work, or experience in reduction of aggression and self-injurious behaviors.
• Experience or training in restraint and de-escalation.
• Ability to maintain strong productive relationships with other employees, parents, and students.
• Maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality in all matters pertaining to students, parents, staff, and program.
• Ability to work effectively with little supervision, plan and prioritize tasks.
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff and administrators, work as a team member.

Condition of Employment:

Active Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification must be issued and in effect within ninety (90) business days of the employee's first day of work. Continued employment is contingent upon timely certification and maintenance of credential status.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Desired:

• Training and experience with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy.
• Working towards or have a degree in Psychology, Social Work, Education, ABA or other related field.

Working Conditions:

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, and move quickly in response to student behaviors. The role may require lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds, including assisting students with mobility or implementing approved physical intervention strategies consistent with district training. Significant fine motor dexterity is required for data collection, documentation, and use of instructional materials and technology. The employee must be physically able to implement behavior intervention plans, which may include responding to elopement, self-injurious behavior, or aggressive behavior.

Work Environment: Most activities are performed indoors in classroom or school-based settings; however, the position may require supporting students in outdoor environments under a variety of weather conditions. The noise level may range from moderate to high depending on student needs and behaviors.

The employee is responsible for the safety and well-being of assigned students and must maintain situational awareness at all times. The position may involve exposure to infectious diseases, student bodily fluids, and physically or verbally aggressive behavior. Work requires close collaboration with teachers, related service providers, and other staff while maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.
