Certified Medical Assistant - Medical Oncology

Job Description The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing patient care and support within the ambulatory setting. Responsible for accurately completing patient interviews, collecting appropriate specimens, assisting the physician with patient exams, maintaining departmental inventory, providing patient education, and ensuring quality direct patient care and non‑professional services as directed by the physician. Perform phlebotomy for diagnostic studies and CLIA waived testing. May also complete EKGs and drug and alcohol testing. Supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts, and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation. Virtualist Program Responsibilities Collect patient intakes remotely and assist in telehealth visits as directed by the physician. Not responsible for hands‑on patient exams, procedures, specimen collection, or phlebotomy. BLS certification is excluded for this program. Qualifications High School Diploma or equivalent required. Graduate of a Medical Assistant program required. Certification in Phlebotomy ASCP preferred. Must be a graduate of a post‑secondary Medical Assistance program accredited by a national accrediting agency, with a minimum of 330 instructional hours and specific training around medication administration as required by the NJ Board of Medical Examiners. All certified medical assistants must maintain an active national certification approved by NJ (e.g., AAMA, NCCT, NHA, AMT, BME). BLS/HCP certification within six months of hire or transfer. 1–3 years of prior experience in ambulatory care preferred. Ability to manage a high volume of interactions with frequent interruptions. Proficiency in clinical applications preferred at hire; skills required within 30–60 days. Performance Expectations Demonstrates the competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position. Work Environment Potential exposure to hazards and risks including blood‑borne pathogens, infectious disease, hazardous substances, and potential injury. Requires reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, sitting, standing, walking, long periods of telephone work. Frequently lifts 25–50 lbs and occasionally 50–100 lbs. Periodic travel to other department locations expected. Reporting Relationship Reports to department leadership as assigned.
