Phoenix Union High School District No. 210 4502 North Central Avenue Phoenix, Arizona 85012 Equal Opportunity Employer Position Overview School Athletics Coach – District Athletics Office, Seasonal, Athletics Department, District Wide, Salary Schedule F. General Statement of Responsibilities The function of a coach is to educate students through participation in an interscholastic competition. The program should enhance academic achievement and promote opportunities for academic success. Students must be treated with respect, and their welfare considered. Coaches are expected to uphold ethical standards and maintain dignity of the profession. Major Duties Be knowledgeable of and enforce federal, state, and district policies, rules, regulations and procedures. Adhere to standards of professional conduct as outlined in Governing Board Policy. Follow guidelines as established by the NO Pass/NO Play policy. Provide for the safety and welfare of all participants in practice areas, locker rooms, and on buses/vans. Support the total school athletic program by developing and implementing strategies for encouraging student participation. Ensure accurate inventory, storage, issuance, care and collection of all school athletic equipment. Adhere to District policies related to transportation, student travel, supervision, use of facilities and key management. Schedule, organize, supervise and proactively control the environment related to practices, competition and pre/post season events. Possess knowledge of the sport being coached. Head Coach Responsibilities (in addition) Maintain and manage budgets tied to the athletic program. Ensure proper supervision and conduct by all assistant and volunteer coaches. Qualifications At least 21 years of age. Current CPR certification. Meet all coaching qualifications, course requirements and certifications per federal, state and District criteria. Pass background investigation as outlined by the District. Recommended by Principal or designee. Receive Governing Board approval. Active Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card. Additional Requirements for Head Coach Possess a valid Arizona Teacher or Substitute Certificate. Lower‑level coaches, if not certified, must be supervised by a certified staff member. Volunteer Coach Requirements Volunteer must always be supervised by a full‑time certified staff member.
