CustodianIn keeping a tradition of excellence, the Custodian will provide students, staff, and guests with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play, and develop.Duties and responsibilities include:Attending meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. for the purpose of gathering information required to perform job functionsKeeping building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways, and play areas, neat and clean at all timesRegulating heat, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to provide temperatures appropriate to season and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricityRaising and lowering the US flagSweeping classrooms daily and dusting furnitureMonitoring activities in and around work areas for the purpose of preventing injuries and ensuring site safety; reporting any concerns immediatelyCleaning corridors after school each day and during the day when their condition requires itScrubbing, hosing down, and disinfecting toilets floors daily, and cleaning and sanitizing fixtures and drinking fountains dailyWashing windows both inside and outside at least twice each year, and more frequently if necessaryKeeping the grounds free from rubbishPerforming yard keeping chores such as grass cutting and tree trimming as necessary to maintain the school grounds in a safe and attractive condition (as assigned)Keeping floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservationMaking minor building repairsMaintaining on a regular schedule motors and other mechanical equipment requiring scheduled servicingReporting immediately to the principal any damage to school propertyRemaining on the school premises during school hours, and during non-school hours when the use of the building has been authorized and extended work hours have been approvedAssuming responsibility for the opening and closing of the building each school day and for determining, before leaving, that doors and windows are secured, and lights, except those left on for safety reasons, are turned offKeeping an inventory of supplies, equipment, and fuel on hand, and requisitioning such needed replacements from the principal, or designee, far enough in advance to allow delivery in such time as will not hinder the educational processReplenishing classroom and restroom supplies for the purpose of ensuring adequate quantities for daily useConducting an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep, and repairMoving furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directedPerforming summer maintenance (strip/wax floors, move furniture, paint, etc.)Maintaining and accepting responsibility for any district owned fixed asset item assigned to employee and ensuring appropriate use by following district policies for acceptable useSecuring facilities and grounds for the purpose of minimizing property damage, equipment loss and/or potential liabilityUndergoing periodic evaluations according to state and board policy proceduresMaintaining confidentialityPerforming such other and not specifically enumerated duties as may be requested by the Board of Education, superintendent, administrator, director or established by district policyReading, understanding, and abiding by Employee Conduct Policy, GAB, all other district policies and applicable procedures and protocols as established by RCSD, and Mississippi Educator Code of ConductQualifications:Education Level: High school diploma or GEDOther Requirements: Pass the agility test, prefer prior related experience, and specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating equipment used in industrial maintenance including electrical cleaning equipment, common tools, etc.; and adhering to safety practices.Knowledge is required to perform multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: methods of industrial cleaning; safety practices and procedures; and English.Ability is required to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods.Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with specific, job-related data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate.Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work priorities; meeting deadlines and schedules; working as part of a team; and working with constant interruptions.Responsibilities include working under direct supervision using standardized routines, and providing information and/or advising others.Physical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness. The employee must regularly lift and move up to 35 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.Work Environment:The work environment is not a standard office setting; but rather encompasses the entire active school campus both inside and outside the facilities.
