Senior Resource Specialist (Power Marketer)

Role Overview We are seeking a Senior Resource Specialist with strong experience in Power Trading or Origination to support wholesale power portfolio strategy, market analysis, transaction execution, and risk management. This role requires a highly analytical and strategically minded energy professional with deep knowledge of physical and financial power markets, Western U.S. wholesale electricity markets, and CAISO operations. The ideal candidate will have experience identifying and executing opportunities involving energy, resource adequacy, renewable energy credits, carbon allowances, import allocations, transmission capacity, and other power-related products. This position will work closely with internal teams to support market strategy, hedge development, portfolio optimization, and long-term contracting efforts. Key Responsibilities Conduct market, regulatory, and policy research to support strategic decision-making and hedge strategy development. Analyze wholesale power market trends, pricing dynamics, regulatory changes, and portfolio risk exposures. Collaborate with market operations, scheduling, analytics, and risk teams to support efficient trade execution and compliance with risk management limits. Support the development and enhancement of energy market fundamentals models. Evaluate opportunities across physical and financial power products, including energy, resource adequacy, renewable energy credits, carbon allowances, transmission capacity, and related instruments. Identify and pursue new business opportunities with counterparties, including independent power producers, municipal utilities, and large commercial or industrial customers. Negotiate and support complex short-term and long-term agreements, including power purchase agreements, tolling agreements, resource adequacy contracts, and related commercial structures. Monitor upcoming RFPs, market solicitations, and commercial opportunities across the energy sector. Evaluate wholesale renewable energy, battery storage, and generation asset opportunities using financial modeling, valuation, and risk management techniques. Use ETRM systems and analytical tools to assess portfolio value, risk exposure, contract performance, and market opportunities. Prepare reports, presentations, and analysis for senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders. Mentor junior team members and support team development as needed. Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Skills and Qualifications Minimum of 6 years of energy industry experience, with direct experience in Power Trading or Origination. Strong knowledge of retail and wholesale energy supply structures and markets. Deep understanding of ISO/RTO markets, with strong CAISO expertise preferred. Knowledge of Western U.S. wholesale electricity markets, including regional trends, market dynamics, and impacts on asset value and risk. Experience with ETRM platforms such as Allegro, Endur, OATI, PCI, or similar systems. Strong financial modeling, quantitative analysis, and market valuation skills. Understanding of financial derivatives, including swaps, options, futures, FTRs, and CRRs. Experience with spark spreads, heat rates, transmission rights, option valuation, day-ahead and real-time markets, scheduling mechanics, and settlements. Deep knowledge of renewable energy, battery storage, power purchase agreements, and related contracting structures. Experience evaluating generation assets, including plant-specific operational characteristics, constraints, value drivers, and risk exposures. Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, charts, ad hoc analysis, and report-quality visualizations. Familiarity with Power BI or similar reporting and visualization tools. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience presenting analysis and recommendations to senior leadership. Ability to manage cross-functional stakeholders in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team-oriented environment. Experience mentoring or guiding junior team members preferred. Ideal Candidate Profile The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of energy commodity markets, including power, natural gas, renewables, resource adequacy, and battery storage. They should bring hands-on experience in power trading or origination, strong commercial judgment, advanced analytical skills, and a strong network within the energy industry.
