SB 848 COMPLIANCE EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1 2026

Effective January 1 2026 and in accordance with California Education Code Section 44051(a)(1) any
applicant for a non-teaching position must disclose acomplete list of every school district county office
of education charter school state special school and diagnostic center operated by the department of
education and private school that the applicant has previously been an employee of including full-time
part-time or substitute roles. Failure to providethis information may be considered an act of
dishonesty and could affect hiring decisions.

Requirements / Qualifications

• Demonstrate knowledge of fundamental skills and techniques as well as advanced techniques applicable to the sport.
• Demonstrate the ability to teach enforce advocate for and model appropriate behavior character development sportsmanship and educational values for student-athletes.
• Demonstrate the ability to follow the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) Coaches Code of Conduct and the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Coaches Code of Conduct .
• Prior experience in the sport is required; experience working with youth is preferred.

Required Sport-Specific Certifications

• Water Polo Swimming & Diving: Current Lifeguarding Certification with Deep Water Training along with CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
• Football: NFHS Football Tackling Certification.
• Cheer: NFHS Cheer Safety Certification.

Athletic Coaching stipend is paid out according to the schedule below:

Fall Coaching: October - November - December (CIF bonus if applicable)

Winter Coaching: January - February - March ( CIF bonus if applicable )

Spring Coaching: April - May - June (CIF bonus if applicable)

COACH RESPONSIBILITES

• Understand that academics are priority
• Be alert to your student-athletes academic performance
• Develop team rules and expectations and communicate these with team & parents
• Provide schedules for practices tournaments and games
• Communicate change in season schedule in a timely manner
• Be on time and come prepared for all practices and games
• Maintain current CPR/First Aid certificates and TB clearance
• Encourage all student-athletes to do their best
• Apply all school and team rules to all student-athletes equally
• Be professional in all actions and words
• Create a positive environment for the team
• Communicate with individual student-athletes as to their role on the team
• Clearly communicate all NFHS CIF SDUHSD Conference and team rules to student-athletes and parents
• Return parent phone calls/emails in a timely manner
• Communicate with parents as soon as possible regarding any injuries to a student-athlete in the absence of an athletic trainer
• Explain vacation/absence policy
• Allow student-athletes time away from practice to make-up tests due to athletic competition or to attend tutoring
• Off-campus walk-on coaches must turn in their keys in order to get paid
• All coaches must get permission from their Athletic Director to use district facilities out of season
• Maintain CIF HOME and MAX PREP results/stats
• Input Schedule into Arbiter if required by sport assignor
• Adhere to CIF Dead Period of your sport during the summer
