Scientist II, Upstream Polysaccharide Process Development

Vaxcyte seeks a Scientist II to design and execute upstream fermentation studies for polysaccharide vaccine manufacturing. The role involves process development, optimization, and troubleshooting using microorganisms, with significant hands-on laboratory work and cross-functional collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Design, execute, and analyze upstream polysaccharide fermentation studies for process development and optimization
- Develop and troubleshoot fermentation processes to improve yield, quality, and consistency
- Perform bioreactor operations, maintenance, troubleshooting, and automation script development
- Investigate anomalous results through root-cause experimentation and structured problem-solving
- Lead assigned project activities and provide technical guidance to junior team members
Requirements
- Practical laboratory experience in microbial fermentation and upstream process development
- Proficiency with bioreactor systems and fermentation equipment operation
- Knowledge of statistical design of experiments and process optimization methods
- Strong experimental design, data interpretation, and technical decision-making skills
- Experience with microbiology and analytical testing in bioprocess contexts
- Ability to author technical documents and present scientific results
