Psychiatric Care Technician

Job Title: Psychiatric Care Technician Department: Harding | Outpatient Services Scope of Position Wexner Medical Center at The Ohio State University and OSU Outpatient Behavioral Health are committed to enhancing the quality of care our patients receive. The Psychiatric Care Technician (PCT) supports a multidisciplinary team that provides interventional and outpatient psychiatry care. The PCT works under the direction of the provider and the staff nurse (RN) to deliver patient-centered care, promote safety, facilitate recovery, and improve service levels. Responsibilities Maintain a therapeutic environment. Reinforce patient education. Maintain safety and emergency preparedness. Implement infection control practices. Manage information and report patient complaints to the assigned provider. Implement interventions appropriate to patient behavior and report falls risk indicators. Perform clerical functions as assigned. Measure and record vital signs (height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respirations) and other routine supportive care. Technical Skills Administer TMS treatments according to protocols provided by mental health professionals. Accurately position the TMS equipment’s electromagnetic coil and secure head and neck support. Apply therapeutic holds and restraints in physical crisis situations. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. Successfully complete designated portions of PCA training and additional PCT training. Demonstrate competence in essential job functions and maintain knowledge related to patient care issues, performance improvement, cost reduction, current policies, procedures, protocols, and annual education and health requirements. Maintain current CPR certification. Demonstrate required computer skills. Physical/Visual/Mental Requirements Transport or move patients and equipment, including use of stairs during emergencies. Move objects up to 50 pounds. Provide patient care while ensuring patient safety on the nursing unit. Set up or adjust various patient equipment items. Apply therapeutic physical holds and restraints during crisis situations. Communicate clearly to facilitate the patient care plan. Demonstrate de-escalation and crisis management skills.
