Scientist I

Illumina seeks a Scientist I to support enzyme production process development within the Advanced Science group. The role involves protein purification, functional assays, buffer formulation, and documentation to advance genomic technology applications.

Responsibilities

• Purify proteins using column chromatography and filtration techniques
• Perform functional and physical assays to evaluate protein purity and stability
• Generate buffer systems and formulate protein solutions to specified conditions
• Create, track, and maintain enzyme and buffer inventory records
• Document experiments accurately and write summaries contributing to reports

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Microbiology, Chemistry, or related field; or Associate's degree with 1–2 years laboratory experience
• Experience with protein and nucleic acid analysis techniques: SDS-PAGE, gel electrophoresis, UV/Vis spectroscopy, or fluorescence-based assays
• Ability to calculate molarities and prepare biological buffers
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Strong organizational, time-management, and analytical abilities
• Comfort with ambiguity and collaborative, fast-paced environments

Compensation: $58,300–$87,500 base
