Job Title: Emergency Department Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Nursing Administration Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12-hour Night Shift Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Minimum 3 years of ER experience, 1 year of travel experience preferred. First-time travelers accepted with the required experience. License: Registered Nurse License required Certifications: BLS, ACLS; PALS preferred Must-Have: Cardiac rhythm interpretation, strong IV skills, basic ED knowledge of drips and medication administration, obtaining EKGs Description: The facility has 231 beds and averages 115 patients per day. Emergency Department has 24 beds. Patient types include neonates to geriatric patients. Common diagnoses encompass minor traumas, sepsis, COVID, STEMI, stroke, DKA, mental health issues, respiratory issues, shortness of breath, cardiac issues, and chest pain. Nurses are not expected to work in the triage area. Patient ratios are RN: 1:5, with the fifth patient being of low acuity requiring minimal resources during surge times. Support within the department includes a 1:10-12 ratio for ER Technicians and Charge Nurses available. Phlebotomy support is provided for difficult sticks, and hospitalists are on staff. Technology includes EMR with preferred experience in EPIC, IV Pump systems, medication dispensing via Pyxis, and bedside monitors with a central monitor at the nurses' station. There is no floating to other units. Scheduling requires weekend rotation with every other weekend and no back-to-back weekends. On-call duty is not required. Holiday expectations include working 2 of 3 holidays during summer and 1 from each group during winter. Approval for time off is allowed up to 7 days. Schedule cycles are made in 6-week increments, provided 1-2 weeks prior to the start of the cycle. Flexibility in scheduling is required, as self-scheduling and block scheduling are not accommodated. Scrub color is navy blue, and artificial fingernails or extenders are not allowed during direct patient care. Natural nail tips should remain less than one inch long.
