Electrician

The Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a candidate to serve as an Electrician at the Illinois Youth Center Harrisburg. The ideal candidate will utilize their education and experience to qualify as a journeyman electrician to safely perform routine maintenance inspections on all electrical equipment in facility buildings. In addition, the electrician will troubleshoot, repair, maintain and install electrical systems (fire alarm systems, camera systems, BAS controls) at the facility.

Position Overview:

Under general supervision, performs routine maintenance inspections in accordance with facility Work Order System and Master Craft/Routine/Cycle Lists which include the inspection of electrical equipment in all buildings. Instructs and monitors unskilled workers assigned to assist with tasks. Repairs and maintains electrical switchboards, panels, household appliances, air conditioners, television sets and other equipment utilizing electricity or its effects. Constructs, installs, alters, maintains, and repairs electrical systems which operate on alternating or direct current circuits and high voltage lines, generators and appliances through panels, switches, meters and circuit breakers. Dresses and polishes commutators. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school. Requires successful completion of a recognized electrician apprenticeship program and four years full-time journey level electrician experience; or 8 years of full-time journey level electrician experience.
