Role description Arcadis is seeking a Staff Environmental Scientist/Engineer to join our Resilience Environment team in Raleigh/Cary, North Carolina. As a member of our Resilience Environmental team, you'll play a key role in improving the quality of life. Drawing on your background in environmental science and engineering, you'll contribute to projects focused on soil, water, and air quality, as well as monitoring and remediation efforts. You'll also have the opportunity to work on pollution mitigation and control, materials management, and the protection of species and ecosystems predominantly in the Carolinas and southeast United States. Your awareness and proactive communication are essential to ensuring a safe and enduring environment for everyone. Fieldwork requirements for this position typically ranges between 20-50%. While the majority of your work will be local to the Carolinas, there are opportunities to travel beyond the region to work on projects in other parts of the country. However, you can generally expect to be home on weekends. This position encompasses both office work (task management, data analysis, report preparation, scope preparation, and client communications) as well as field work. Estimated travel is expected to reduce overtime as your role evolves. Core duties Field preparation, equipment procurement, and analytical laboratory sampling coordination. Field activities may include conducting site visits, site characterization activities, performing drilling oversight for soil sampling and/or groundwater well installation, groundwater sampling, and/or excavation oversight. Field activities may include oversight of remedial system installation activities. Provide emergency response support (environmental sample planning and collection, rail client and state/federal regulator correspondence, onsite contractor oversight) for train derailments/HAZMAT spills, with the potential to travel throughout the US. Writing and preparing technical reports, work plans, letters, and memoranda. Office work will include task coordination, data analysis, proposal development and costing, health & safety plan preparation, report writing, regulatory and historical file review, project strategy development, schedule and budget management, regulatory and stakeholder correspondence, and other project documentation. You will assist project managers with preparing subcontracts and overseeing subcontractors, including development of subcontractor scopes of work and authorizations, development of agreements with subcontractors and service providers, and management of project budgets and timelines to support delivery of the planned scope within the established budget. Qualifications & Experience Required Bachelor's degree or equivalent in an appropriate area of geology, environmental science, or engineering. 4 or more years’ relevant experience in environmental consulting. Preferred May hold or be working towards an advanced degree (M. Eng., MS, MBA, etc.). OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER training preferred. Subcontractor oversight experience. We offer nine paid holidays and 15 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $76,000 - $114,000. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
