Food Supervisor

The position is responsible for supervising employees to ensure security, safety, food specifications, quality assurance of products, sanitation, HACCP and FDA regulations are followed, and for managing labor and food cost controls as per company specifications. Maintain company policies, procedures, and specification books for airline customers and serve as a resource for those policies. Control food cost and other operable costs. Work with management staff to improve unit performance. Prepare management reports (e.g., attendance, HACCP, labor) as required. Ensure safety, quality, and compliance with customer specifications, regulatory requirements, and company policies. Validate that all products are coded according to Gate Gourmet procedures. Conduct inventory of Gate Gourmet products and customer materials to ensure proper usage and minimize waste. Complete required requisitions for the storeroom to maintain adequate supply. Maintain daily temperature logs and other required logs and reports. Work with maintenance staff to ensure preventive maintenance of machinery according to schedules and report maintenance and repair issues promptly. Perform performance evaluation, coaching, counseling, and corrective action preparation for employees, coordinating with HR and support functions. Manage workflow balancing division of responsibilities among employees on each shift. Determine when and whether to call employees in to cover staffing needs (e.g., sick calls, vacation relief, medical leaves, volume changes). Determine number of employees needed by shift in conjunction with department leaders. Ensure compliance with company Wage & Hour policy, including rest and meal breaks and proper processes. Train and monitor employees on proper work procedures to maximize productivity with minimum labor and food expenses. Monitor daily manpower planning and schedule employees. Reduce employee turnover through retention strategies. Coach, counsel, and prepare corrective actions for employees in compliance with union/collective bargaining agreements. Verify employees are in correct cost centers and job titles. Ensure union represented employees’ pay rates are correct based on wage scales and seniority. Ensure all employees complete required training, including ServSafe compliance and all company-required policies, procedures, and processes. Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree preferred. Work Experience: 2+ years supervisory experience in high-volume manufacturing, food production, restaurant or catering environment. Technical Skills: Strong leadership; ability to manage 30+ hourly employees; current or previous labor relations experience a plus; ability to train others and deliver negative and positive feedback daily; excellent time management; strong organizational, analytical, communication, and leadership skills; innovative and ability to make changes to improve work environment and unit performance; basic computer skills with Microsoft Office; must obtain ServSafe Certification (preferred). Language/Communication Skills: Clear and effective speaking and writing; listening attentively; bilingual in English and one of Spanish, Chinese Mandarin, Vietnamese, Hindi, or Polish is a plus.
