Environmental/Wetlands Scientist II

About the Opportunity We’re looking for a Scientist II to join our Chicago-based team, supporting a range of environmental, natural resource, and NEPA compliance projects across the Midwest. This role is a great fit for someone who enjoys a balance of fieldwork, technical writing, and planning. This position will work independently while developing under the guidance of experienced professionals. Your Role on the Team You’ll contribute to projects from field to final deliverable, including: Conducting aquatic resources delineations and other biological field investigations Supporting environmental permitting, NEPA documentation, and planning efforts Preparing clear, high-quality wetland reports and technical documentation Assisting in the preparation of NEPA documents (e.g., Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Assessments, and supporting technical reports) Coordinating with internal teams to integrate resource studies into NEPA documents and environmental compliance strategies Traveling to project sites across the Midwest (~25% of the time) Assisting with agency coordination and responses to comments under NEPA and related regulations What You Bring to the Team Bachelor’s degree in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science, Natural Resources, or a related field 3+ years of experience in environmental consulting, ecology, or related field Strong technical writing skills and experience turning field data into clear, defensible reports Ability to work independently and manage your time effectively Experience with biological fieldwork including aquatic resources delineations, habitat assessments and reporting What You Can Expect A mix of field, office, and hybrid work when not on-site Opportunities to support meaningful projects across the region Direct mentorship from senior environmental professionals Developing experience in NEPA documentation and interdisciplinary environmental review under senior staff guidance A collaborative team environment with access to peers and technical experts across multiple offices Benefits Comprehensive Healthcare (medical, dental, vision, short- & long-term disability insurance) Employee Stock Ownership Plan (financial profit sharing) Performance-based bonuses 401(k) Plan Paid Time Off (both vacation & sick/wellness time accruals) Paid Holidays Parental Bonding Leave Exciting, Award-Winning Project Work: Our work earns recognition for its innovation and positive impact on communities, giving you the opportunity to contribute to projects that make a difference. Salary Range: $70,000 USD - $90,000 USD. Compensation is determined by factors such as education, experience, location, and role.
