Role Description This full-time Sterile Processing Technician II role is an on-site position located in Baltimore, MD. The Sterile Processing Technician II is responsible for cleaning, decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, packaging, sterilizing, and storing surgical instruments and medical equipment according to established policies and regulatory standards. The role includes operating and monitoring sterilization equipment, maintaining accurate records and tracking systems, and ensuring the availability of properly processed instruments for operating rooms and clinical areas. Daily tasks involve collaborating with surgical and nursing teams, prioritizing instrument turnaround based on procedure schedules, and promptly addressing requests for urgent or specialty sets. The technician also participates in quality assurance activities, routine equipment checks, and ongoing process improvements to support patient safety and high-quality care. Qualifications Demonstrated proficiency in sterile processing procedures, including decontamination, assembly, packaging, and sterilization of instruments. Ability to operate and troubleshoot sterilization equipment (e.g., steam sterilizers, low-temperature sterilizers, washers) and follow manufacturer and regulatory guidelines. Strong attention to detail for instrument inspection, identification, and set configuration, with accurate documentation and recordkeeping. Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with surgical services, nursing, and other clinical staff in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of infection prevention principles and compliance with hospital policies, AAMI, AORN, and Joint Commission standards. Relevant certification such as Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or equivalent, or eligibility and commitment to obtain certification within a specified timeframe. Previous sterile processing or operating room support experience, preferably in an acute-care hospital setting. Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and move instrument trays, and perform repetitive tasks while maintaining focus and accuracy. High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an accredited sterile processing or central service program is preferred.
