Cafe Supervisor
The Cafe Supervisor oversees daily cafe operations, ensuring excellent customer service, smooth workflow, and adherence to quality and safety standards. This role leads the front-line team, supports scheduling and training, and helps maintain a welcoming, efficient environment for both customers and staff.
Responsibilities
- Supervise daily cafe operations, including opening/closing procedures and shift transitions
- Lead, motivate, and coach baristas and cafe staff to deliver excellent customer service
- Create and manage staff schedules to ensure adequate coverage during peak hours
- Train new employees on menu items, equipment use, and customer service standards
- Monitor inventory levels and place orders for supplies as needed
- Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
- Handle customer complaints or escalated issues professionally and promptly
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the cafe, kitchen, and seating areas
- Track sales, cash handling, and daily reports; assist with basic bookkeeping
- Assist management with performance reviews and staff development
- Ensure equipment (espresso machines, grinders, etc.) is properly maintained and serviced
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education a plus
- 12+ years of experience in a cafe, coffee shop, or food service environment
- Prior supervisory or team lead experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of coffee preparation, food safety practices, and customer service standards
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Basic proficiency with POS systems and scheduling software
- Food Handler's Certification (or willingness to obtain)
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 2530 lbs (supply boxes, equipment, etc.)
- Comfortable working around hot equipment and in a fast-paced kitchen/cafe setting
Work Schedule
- Full-time; may include early mornings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs
