Nurse Residency Program - Shady Grove Medical Center (Winter 2027)

Shady Grove Medical Center Adventist HealthCare, a faith‑based organization, has served communities throughout Maryland for more than a century and is the largest healthcare provider in Montgomery County. Adventist HealthCare seeks to hire a Nurse Resident who will embrace our mission to extend God’s care through the ministry of physical, mental and spiritual healing. A Nurse Resident will work with a team of professionals to make a difference in patients’ lives every day. Nurse Residency Program The Nurse Residency Program is a year‑long experience designed to support the transition from nursing school to professional practice. After completion of the residency year, a nurse resident has a minimum one‑year commitment to their unit of hire. Upon satisfying that commitment, the resident may transfer anywhere within the Adventist HealthCare system. During the first year the residency team collaborates with unit leaders, a preceptor, and the resident to ensure a successful transition. The resident participates in a prescribed orientation period based on their specialty of hire and works under the direct supervision of an RN preceptor to acquire the RN role. Once a month, nurse residents meet for a four‑hour seminar that offers an opportunity to debrief clinical experiences, engage with system leaders, and build community with peers. After orientation, the resident remains under the Nurse Residency Team for the remainder of the calendar year, receiving continuous support. The preceptor serves as a mentor after the resident achieves independence. Responsibilities Attend all assigned learning activities and clinical experiences; arrive on time and prepared. Complete all clinical and classroom assignments and maintain at least an 80% passing grade. Rotate shifts according to program and/or preceptor’s schedule. Assume responsibility for all costs associated with required books, materials, equipment, and transportation (some training may be off‑site). Work closely with preceptor, CNS, educators, and program coordinator to integrate and maximize learning. Participate in regular evaluation sessions to provide and receive feedback on individual performance and the Nurse Residency Program; complete competency documentation. Complete an Evidence‑Based Practice Project prior to program completion. Qualifications Graduate from an accredited ASN, BSN, or MSN program within 12 months prior to cohort start date. Preferred GPA: 2.75 or higher. No previous RN or LPN experience. Licensed as an RN in Maryland or a compact state prior to the start date. BLS certification (American Heart Association). Specialty specific: ACLS (for intensive care units, PACU); can be obtained after employment. Solid analytical, critical‑thinking, and communication skills.
