Registered Nurse (December 2026 Grads) - Peds Cardiac Stepdown

What you can expect Location: 2301 Erwin Rd, Durham, NC 27705 The Pediatric Cardiac Stepdown Unit, located in Duke Central Tower at Duke University Hospital, is a 19-bed specialized unit caring for infants through young adults with congenital heart disease, cardiac transplant needs, and complex medical conditions, including tracheostomy and ventilator dependence. The nurse‑to‑patient ratio is 1:3. New graduate nurses will complete a 16‑week paid orientation, monthly Nurse Residency classes, and completion of a unit‑focused project. Schedule: Full Time: 3, 12‑hour shifts; 7 a.m./7 p.m., rotating days/nights; 36 hours per week. How you will make an impact Plan, provide, and document professional nursing care in accordance with physician orders, nursing plans of care, and established policies and procedures. Provide nursing services to patients and families within the scope of RN practice as defined by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. Delegate tasks and supervise licensed and unlicensed care providers while collaborating with the interdisciplinary care team. Participate in maintaining the environment of care, prioritizing work organization, and supporting performance improvement activities. Engage in professional development, support learners, and perform other related duties as assigned. What you will need Graduate of an accredited Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN), Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), or Nursing Diploma program. All registered nurses without a BSN are required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and complete the program within seven years. Current RN licensure with the North Carolina Board of Nursing or compact RN licensure eligible to practice in North Carolina. BLS certification required.
