Agency Dept of Health and Human Services Division Caswell Developmental Center Job Classification Title Speech And Language Pathologist (NS) Position Number 60053001 Grade MH17 About Us The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is one of the largest, most complex agencies in the state, and has approximately 17,000 employees. It is responsible for ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of all North Carolinians, providing human service needs for special populations including individuals who are deaf, blind, developmentally disabled, and mentally ill, and helping poor North Carolinians achieve economic independence. Description of Work This Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) serves as a member of assigned homes’ interdisciplinary teams with primary responsibilities of providing direct and indirect services related to residents’ speech, language, communication, cognitive, and swallowing skills/function. Services provided include evaluations; direct therapy; indirect services, including in-service training and consultation with staff/team to ensure integration of services; and, necessary record-keeping and documentation in the electronic health record. The position fulfills the Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disability (ICF/IID) standards requiring that the services described above are provided by qualified personnel. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Recruitment Range: $66,696 to $ 110,049 Candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they meet the minimum education and experience listed on the vacancy announcement. The Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs )/Management Preferences are not required. Applicants who possess the following skills are preferred: Considerable knowledge of and skill in the application of professional speech-language pathology theory, techniques, principles, and procedures. Familiarity with a broad range of augmentative communication systems designed to develop functional communication for individuals who do not demonstrate typical communication abilities. Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities is preferred but not required. Knowledge of dysphagia and other swallowing related problems. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills and the ability to work well within a team of professionals and a willingness to adapt to change, when needed.
