Police Officer Salary and Benefits: Annual base salary of $40,000 with full benefits package. Pre-Employment Requirements: Official transcripts required prior to employment (if applicable). Recommended candidate will be subject to pre-employment screenings. Qualifications Certification/Licensure: P.O.W.E.R. Certification Card (not older than 1 year from date of application); Valid Illinois Driver’s License; Certified Police Officer through ILETSB preferred. Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or GED. Other: Citizen of the United States; minimum 21 years of age; provide three professional references (supervisors and/or coworkers) and three personal references (family and/or friends). Responsibilities Patrol Functions Drive a motor vehicle under emergency and non-emergency conditions. Respond to all service calls assigned. Patrol area in vehicle and on foot. Search persons, vehicles and places without violating constitutional rights. Administer first aid. Traffic Functions Enforce traffic and parking laws and ordinances. Investigate traffic accidents and aid the injured. Control, regulate and direct traffic, vehicular and pedestrian. Arrest and Apprehension Functions Identify and apprehend offenders. Follow and adhere to officer safety tactics. Advise person in custody of constitutional rights. Follow the use of force policy, including the ability to use deadly force if necessary. Pursue suspects on foot or in vehicle when applicable. Physical Functions Walk up and down stairs. Sit, stand and walk for long periods of time. Navigate obstacles while in foot pursuits with the possibility of needing to run long distances. Physically restrain, detain and apprehend offenders with the possibility of needing to physically defend yourself and others. Investigative Functions Investigate crimes against persons and/or property. Investigate suspicious circumstances, persons or vehicles. Collect and preserve evidence. Conduct surveillance of individuals or locations. Communication Functions Use of radio and phones. Effectively work with citizens. Participate in meetings. Conduct interviews and explain complaints. Community Functions Citizen/Dignitary escorts: interact with students, staff, and administrators of the college. Court Functions Testify in court for traffic at hearings and criminal/civil court. Read and review reports and notes for court testimony. Planning, Organizing, and Administrative Functions Write reports and memos and conduct record checks. Assist in training new personnel and police officers. Make judgments referencing arrest/release of suspects. Serve subpoenas and search/arrest warrants.
