Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement
The Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement serves as the chief fundraising officer and provides strategic leadership for all university fundraising efforts. The role develops and implements a comprehensive advancement program aligned with the university’s strategic plan, oversees major gifts, annual giving, planned giving, alumni relations, and corporate and foundation relations, and works closely with the Chancellor, executive leadership, and external partners such as the NCCU Foundation and the NCCU Alumni Association to strengthen the university’s engagement and philanthropic culture.

Responsibilities and Duties
- Leadership and Collaboration : Provide vision and leadership for Advancement’s strategic direction; develop and implement strategies to engage constituents; collaborate with the Chancellor, associated entities, senior leadership, faculty, and UNC System Advancement shared services; personally solicit high‑net‑worth prospects; direct donor cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Budget Processing and Management : Introduce structured approaches to prospect identification and cultivation; represent the university to alumni, friends, foundations, business leaders, and potential major donors; oversee office administration, staff hiring and evaluation, and mentoring; lead and develop a high‑effectiveness team; create performance tracking systems; manage the Advancement Office budget and administrative operations.
- Operations Management : Ensure all systems and processes—from prospect research to solicitation to gift acceptance—are efficient, data‑driven, and compliant; conduct ongoing reviews of policies, procedures, and practices in alignment with industry standards.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong results orientation and proven track record in setting and achieving ambitious goals; ability to be a strategic partner with senior leadership; genuine appreciation for philanthropy in all its forms; proven success building relationships with diverse constituencies.
Minimum Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred. Significant, progressively responsible development experience in annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, corporate and foundation giving, capital campaigns, alumni relations, and events. Experience linking donor interests to institutional priorities and building, managing, and motivating an engaged advancement team. Ability to assess fundraising efficacy and elevate the institution to the next level of proficiency and impact.
