JOB SUMMARY

The Recreation Coordinator supports the Rec Res Director by ensuring that evenings, weekends, and all non-school hours are well scheduled and filled with group experiential learnings, and fun activities on and off campus. Working with the RRD, the AL Coordinator ensures that all off-campus activities are well planned, safe and sufficiently staffed before initiating the activity. The AL Coordinator needs to know and understand each student's Behavioral Improvement Plan (BIP) and be able to effectively relay that information to residential staff. Working with the therapists and the educational staff, the RC will help determine and refine which behavior management techniques are most effective and will make revision recommendations to the LRA Positive Behavior Plan quarterly. The AL Coordinator, taking guidance from the GLD, will provide intensive OTMSS (Orient, Train, Monitor, Supervise, Support) to selected group-living staff with a particular focus on improving behavior management skills -- demonstrating that a meaningful activity, implemented with enthusiasm, can be effective at minimizing problematic behaviors.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

1. Maintains the state required staff to student ratio of 1:4, on and off campus.
2. Models positive interactions on the job and applying de-escalation strategies when needed.
3. Plans, coordinates, and communicates proposed activities with the Residential, Clinical, Education, and Administration department heads; creates a Monthly Activities Calendar.
4. Provides input as required to Residential behavioral reports.
5. Provides weekly report of activities to the Group Living Director.
6. Provides regular reports to relevant Logan River Academy staff and parents/guardians when requested.
7. Tracks student satisfaction with activities and develops outcome measures for the effectiveness of activity groups. Shares results with Group Living Director.
8. Creates quarterly on-campus community events to engage the students and staff (e.g. holiday focused programming, talent shows, mural painting).
9. Reviews critical incidents and participates in root-cause analysis as requested by the Compliance Officer.
10. Manages inventory and approves the ordering of recreation expenses/supplies per approved budget.
11. Manages activity plans within an approved budget and provides supporting receipts as necessary and within policy requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school Diploma required, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 1-year experience coordinating or scheduling activities in residential, recreation, or admin roles.
• Experience in working with adolescents who present behavioral challenges.
• Strong oral, written and interpersonal skills.
• Proficient in telephone, computer, and face-to-face customer service skills.
• Must be 21 years or older

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Trained and able to safely manage student behaviors even when hands-on is required.
• Frequent and clear communication, both verbal and written, with all employees.
