Position Engineering Technician III – Traffic Analysis Technician (Position No. 60016368, Grade NC11) Job Summary This role serves as a Traffic Analysis Technician for the Traffic Analysis Section of the Traffic Survey Group, reporting to the Traffic Analysis Supervisor and supporting all Traffic Survey Group sections and staff as assigned. The Technician performs technical tasks related to planning, processing, analyzing, and publishing traffic monitoring data to meet Federal Highway Administration’s Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) reporting requirements and support transportation planning activities. Responsibilities Review and analyze short‑term and continuous traffic monitoring data sets on a daily/weekly/monthly basis. Process small to large data sets, perform quality control and quality assurance, and analyze traffic data sets. Evaluate traffic trends, investigate data issues, add/edit/retire station points, and communicate with team members to address traffic data collection and equipment performance and efficiency concerns. Supply traffic monitoring data sets, including seasonal data, vehicle classification data, annual average daily traffic data, and other information for individual and groups of traffic monitoring stations. Investigate and correct low‑ to high‑level QC issues throughout any of the traffic monitoring data sets and systems. Perform traffic station edits in Traffic Survey’s operating applications. Respond to traffic data requests and provide support to personnel performing other functions of the group on an as‑needed basis. Collaborate with support staff to develop new processes that enhance data analysis and management processes of the traffic analysis section. Review the setup of Interstate/Freeway ramp balancing by confirming work zones. Request and process counts through the vendor count contract. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Considerable knowledge of traffic monitoring concepts, collection techniques, procedures, standards (FHWA‑TMG, AASHTO Traffic Data Programs), and equipment. Considerable knowledge of statistics and the application of statistics to traffic data analysis and quality control. Demonstrated ability to identify and investigate data anomalies within large and complex data sets using line graphs to compare data. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and perform tasks of low to high complexity, set short and long‑term goals, and prioritize work daily. Demonstrated ability to provide excellent and timely customer service by delivering proper data sets to meet customer needs. Minimum Education and Experience Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum from an accredited institution and three (3) years of progressive technician-level experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Salary Grade NC11 – $45,431.00–$79,504.00 per annum.
