IT Field Services Technician

IT Solutions Field Services is seeking hands-on IT Field Services Technicians to perform on-site de-installation, installation and cutover work across three concurrent infrastructure refresh projects for Aon Service Corporation in Bermuda: Juniper network switch replacement, UPS power system refresh, and VeloCloud SD-WAN edge appliance installation. This is 100% on-site work at the client's Hamilton, Bermuda location, performed after normal business hours, and requires strong rack-and-stack, cabling, and hardware installation skills.

Key Responsibilities

1. Network Switch Installation - Juniper EX4400 (Bermuda, 1 site / 8 switches)

• Coordinate site access, scheduling, and point-of-contact confirmation with Aon.
• Verify rack space, available power, and existing cable plant prior to the scheduled swap.
• Confirm hardware delivery and stage the site-specific BOM (switches, PSUs, uplink modules, DAC/power cables).
• Unrack and disconnect legacy access switches; rack and stack new Juniper EX4400-48MP and/or EX4400-24MP switches per BOM.
• Install PSUs, DAC cables, and EX4400-EM-4S uplink modules per switch as specified.
• Connect power cabling and confirm switch boot-up and initial link status.
• Migrate existing patch cabling, network uplinks, and PoE-powered devices from legacy to new switches; label all cabling per industry standards.
• Verify link status on every active port; coordinate with Aon and its MSP to confirm connectivity and PoE device recovery.
• Complete walkthrough sign-off with the on-site or remote Aon point of contact.
• Clean up work areas, stage removed switches for client disposition, and document as-built deviations from the standard BOM.

2. UPS Infrastructure Refresh - APC Smart-UPS X 3000 (Bermuda, 1 site / 4 units)

• Support project kickoff, site scheduling, and local-contact coordination.
• Confirm site-visit schedule and determine which items require power-down to replace the existing UPS system.
• Power down, disconnect all power connections, and unrack the legacy UPS system; stage for client disposal.
• Receive, unbox, and inspect new UPS and external battery pack equipment; verify against packing list and condition on-site.
• Rack-mount the UPS (2U) and external battery pack (4U); secure and cable-manage per manufacturer spec.
• Connect UPS to rack power/PDU and cable the external battery pack; confirm power-on and battery pack recognition.
• Install and configure the APC Network Management Card 3 (static IP, SNMP, e-mail alerts, NTP) and join it to Aon's monitoring network; confirm test alert received.
• Perform self-test and runtime verification; validate alarms, load levels, and remote-monitoring visibility.
• Label equipment (asset tag, circuit, site ID), remove packaging, and complete walkthrough sign-off.
• Deliver as-built documentation (site report, IP/config sheet, photos) and a rolled-up project completion report.

3. SD-WAN Edge Installation - VeloCloud Edge 740 (Bermuda: 2 sites - physical installation only)

• Receive, unpack, and visually inspect (2) Edge 740 appliances and (1) rack mount bracket per site.
• Install rack mount bracket and mount both appliances in the customer-designated rack, cabinet, or shelf.
• Connect included power cables to each appliance and confirm power-on/boot indicators.
• Install 1000BASE-LX SFP transceivers where a fiber uplink is present.
• Connect WAN and LAN handoff cabling per the site-specific port map provided by Aon/network engineering.
• Label all devices and cabling per standard convention; verify link/status LEDs and photograph the completed installation.
• Physically remove and stage legacy SD-WAN/router hardware for client disposition.
• Complete a site installation checklist and obtain site-contact confirmation of physical completion.
• Note: cloud-side Orchestrator configuration, edge activation, and traffic cutover are performed remotely by others and are out of scope for this role.

Required Skills & Experience

• Hands-on experience with structured cabling, rack-and-stack, and network/data closet installations.
• Working knowledge of enterprise network switches (Juniper preferred) - physical installation, cabling, and port/link verification.
• Experience installing and configuring UPS systems (APC Smart-UPS or similar), including network management cards and basic IP/SNMP setup.
• Familiarity with SD-WAN edge appliances (VeloCloud/Arista or similar) - physical mounting, cabling, and SFP installation.
• Comfortable working independently on-site during after-hours/overnight maintenance windows.
• Strong documentation habits: as-built notes, site reports, and photo evidence of completed work.
• Able to coordinate directly with client points of contact and third-party MSPs during live cutover windows.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work on-site at the Hamilton, Bermuda location for the full engagement.

Preferred Certifications

• Juniper JNCIA / JNCIS or equivalent networking certification.
• CompTIA Network+ or A+.
• APC / Schneider Electric UPS installation training (a plus).

Work Conditions

• All work performed after normal business hours (evenings/nights) to avoid client business disruption.
• On-site work required at 6 Front St, City of Hamilton, Bermuda - this role is not remote or hybrid.
• Engagement billed on a time & materials basis - actual hours worked; materials billed at cost plus 10%.
• Site access, tools, and hardware BOM coordinated with Aon and IT Solutions Field Services prior to mobilization.
