Registered Nurse (Wound Care)

The Registered Nurse (Wound Care) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based care to assigned patients and oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants, as appropriate to specialty clinical practice setting. Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines. Other duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

• Identifies and institutes preventive treatment measures and monitors results of wound care delivered.
• Provides colleagues with useful tools to improve wound care knowledge, assessment, and management skills.
• Assists in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization consultation.
• Analyzes resources available to staff and identifies risk areas, including quality metrics, supplies, equipment, availability of data and information to foster a safe and supportive environment for staff learning, educational and professional development.
• Provides evaluation of the effectiveness of resources, equipment, supplies, and specialty advanced therapies currently in use and being considered for future use for wound assessment and management (and may include ostomy and continence care).
• Apply clinical knowledge/judgment to lead staff involvement in planning, decision making, and evaluating outcomes within the immediate practice setting.
• Demonstrates wound care experience that involves performing integrating theoretical concepts, strong critical thinking skills, and reflecting technically skilled wound care practice.
• Leads the provision of nursing care to patients with complex care needs utilizing the nursing process in alignment with the ANA Standards of Nursing Practice.
