Job Title: TECH ASSISTANT Pay: $35 Per Hour Shift: Day Shift – 8 am to 5:00 pm Location: Salinas, CA, 93901 Schedule: Temp to Hire Special Notes: The manager is looking for a scheduler. Two (2) to four (4) years of recent scheduling experience in PT/CT, Angio, CT, US, MRI, and X-ray is required. Responsibilities Under direct supervision, uses the PACS system to transmit, print, and burn CDs of patient imaging studies, transports and assists patients, assists in lifting and moving patients, and files x-ray jackets. Performs routine clerical duties: prepares charts for interventional procedures, obtains pertinent information including patient demographics and financial data, enters it into the computer, and provides necessary patient preparation for procedures. Works with Radiologists and Nurses to schedule interventional cases. Prepares and processes initial paperwork and identification bands. Schedules exams for multiple modalities (PT/CT, CT, MRI, NM, US, Angio, X-ray, Mammo). Maintains professional and friendly phone voice. Obtains authorizations, provides necessary billing codes for the physician's office, and assesses medical necessity for Medicare patients. Obtains required signatures and collects a copy of insurance, Medicare, and medical cards. Follows regulations for Medicare Secondary Payer and the three-day rule. Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care for patients served on the unit. Performs any combination of duties depending on area of assignment; performs other duties as assigned. Required Skills Schedules exams with the MD office: obtains authorization and DI order, provides necessary CPT codes, obtains ICD-9 codes for Medicare patients to assess medical necessity. Interviews and pre-registers patients for PET/CT, MRI, US & CT to obtain accurate demographic information, enters it in the computer system, provides patient preparation. Remains in contact with diabetic patients having daily PET/CT for glucose readings until the appointment. Registers, interviews, and screens patients into the ITS and Meditech systems. Coordinates child/adult sedation under anesthesiology with the surgery scheduling department, notifying the DI and OR nurses. Reviews DI orders for the following day and verifies it coincides with the exam scheduled. Enters x-ray, CT, US, MRI & PET/CT exams into the computer system; prepares charts for interventional procedures. Prepares all necessary paperwork, consents, questionnaires, and identification bands for the following day. Prepares CT, US, PET/CT & MRI schedules for the technologist and radiologist. Greets, registers, and obtains necessary insurance and identification cards from the patient. Determines the patient’s primary and secondary payor and enters it into the computer. Initiates and explains all required documents, consents, and registration demographics with the patient and obtains required signatures. Assists patients by transporting (wheelchair, stretcher, walking) and lifting them off and on the X-ray table. Answers all telephone calls with the greeting “Diagnostic Imaging, how may I direct your call?” promptly and courteously. Performs miscellaneous duties such as filing X-ray jackets, printing/burning CDs for patient imaging studies. Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care appropriate to the population served. Assists physicians with viewing images on the PACS system. Records all subpoenas and legal documentation for the Radiology Department. Assists technologists with patient flow, scans signed MD orders, and performs other duties as assigned. Required Certifications & Licensure Current BLS/Healthcare Provider status as per American Heart Association standards. Education High school education or GED. Experience Two (2) to four (4) years of recent scheduling experience in PT/CT, Angio, CT, US, MRI, and x-ray; recent (6‑12 months) Epic experience. Medical terminology strongly preferred.
