Job SummaryLeonardo DRS Land Systems is seeking a full time Manager, Software Engineer that will be responsible for supervising a team of software engineers, on activities and the completion of the activities on time and budget. This position is based out of our Bridgeton, MO facility and will have the option to work an in person or hybrid schedule. The software engineers are responsible to design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of products, systems, or subsystems. This role must also have the ability to complete a technical project independently and to mentor and/or coach other engineers. Responsible for employee development efforts and new employee recruiting when necessary.Job ResponsibilitiesManage/Supervise and direct the work of a software engineering team responsible for driving technology through means of design, develop, analyze, document and support testing of products, systems, or subsystemsManage budget, cost and schedule input and design assignments for the software departmentWork closely with staff to conceptualize systems and software technical designsMentor and/or coach either within or outside of direct staffReview customer specifications and requirements, and develop designs to best support them, including cost as a key design variableAbility to supervise a group independently, provide assistance to staff; communicate work priorities; verify accuracy of work and engineering employee developmentDrive the program design to cost and designDocument component and subsystem specifications requirementsParticipate in preparation of proposalsResponsible for completion of assigned task on time and meeting technical requirementsSupport and participate in technical engineering support activities, such as design reviewsPerform the design, development, modification, analysis, and/or documentation of various software systemsParticipate in resolution of technical issues within the company and outside suppliersAttend and participate in appropriate engineering, customer, or business meetingsCommunicate clearly (written and oral) with other company personnel and the customer as requiredSupport, communicate, reinforce, and defend the mission, values and culture of the organizationQualificationsBachelor’s degree in Software Engineering or related field5+ years of Software Engineering experienceDemonstrated people and technical leadership capabilitiesProven Computer Science fundamentals in embedded development, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysisExperience in one of the following: C, C++, C# and/or JavaExperience with Linux/Unix is preferredDemonstrated ability to lead the development of complex software systems through successful customer deliveryAbility to apply technical expertise to lead software engineering team through solving complex embedded design problemsExperience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategyExperience influencing software engineering best practices within the teamExperience continuously improve engineering practices for the software platform to support efficiency, reliability, and serviceability goalsExcellent analytical and communication skills, written and verbalAbility to develop a strong technical platform vision that encourages team members to build configuration driven platform tools to allow the principles of the team to scale throughout the organizationAbility to be a strong mentor of peers and direct reportsU.S. Citizenship required. This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.The salary range for this position is $130,828.00/year- $176,618.00/year for the state of Illinois. This range reflects the good faith estimate of pay the employer is willing to offer at the time of posting. Several factors can influence the pay scale, including but not limited to: Federal contract labor categories and contract wage rates, collective bargaining agreements, geographic location, business considerations, scope, and responsibilities of the position, local or other applicable market conditions, and internal equity. Other factors include the candidate’s qualifications such as prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education/training, and certifications.
