About the Role
The Physical Education Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering a structured, inclusive PE program while also supporting classroom-based instruction, student supervision, and schoolwide instructional needs as assigned. The Physical Education Teacher collaborates effectively with classroom teachers and specialists to ensure PE instruction is responsive to each student’s individual needs and learning profile. This position currently reports to the Assistant/Head of School. Classroom size is up to 12 students!
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver PE instruction for students with learning and attention challenges; create a written weekly plans detailing activities, goals, and adaptations.
- Conduct comprehensive review of each student’s file and conversations with parents and specialists in order to develop a written personalized learning plan for each student.
- Take time to reflect on instruction and share reflections with classroom teaching partners as appropriate in order to continually deliver effective instruction; note reflections in student’s file as adjustments and interventions are implemented.
- Formally and informally assess each strengths and challenges; keep written track of these in the student’s file.
- Collaborate with colleagues throughout the school and CHC in order to support student wellbeing and ensure students are reaching their learning goals.
- Plan instruction to meet multiple modes of learning and engagement, with attention to sensory, motor, and regulatory needs as evidenced in the written weekly planner.
- Recognize each student’s strengths and teach to those strengths by creating a written strength-based profile for each student.
- Closely monitors classroom and PE program budget.
- Fully participates in all school activities (including parent ed classes).
- Attend Sand Hill School and CHC identified special events and activities.
- Participate in Parent Visits as assigned.
- Willingly participate in review/reflection/evaluation process.
- Develop collegiality within and across disciplines at CHC to build rapport and professional collaboration with the larger CHC staff.
- Develop collegial relationships with outside professionals to promote cross referrals.
- Maintain commitment to child safety, mandated reporting duty, and professional boundaries.
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in education, physical education, or a related field.
- Current special education teaching certification/credential OR active pursuit of certification/credential.
- 2-4 years of classroom or PE teaching experience.
- Experience teaching or coaching sports and physical activities to students across a range of ability levels.
- Experience working with neurodiverse students with learning differences, ages 5-14.
- Proficiency with technology tools including Google Classroom and Google Suite.
- Special education teaching experience.
- Experience in specialized educational settings serving students with learning differences.

- Communicate frequently with parents in which both parents and teachers learn from each other in the best interest of the student.
- Effectively team and collaborate with all professionals in order to maximize student progress.
- Regularly and effectively communicate and plan with colleagues.
- Genuinely enjoy being with their students and make PE a joyful, inclusive experience.
- Recognize their students’ strengths and contributions to the classroom community.
- Are skilled in working with students who struggle with learning, attention, sensory, and motor challenges, and know the best approach to use given the situation.
- Manage the PE environment well — are explicit with student expectations and boundaries and know when and how to intervene to ensure positive results and model exemplary behavior management skills.
- Are skilled in delivering instruction that is developmentally appropriate, adaptive, and appropriately paced.
- Set individual student goals and regularly monitor and track student progress to ensure students are progressing in meeting goals.
- Willing and eager to use technology to support learning, instruction, and productivity.
- Seek out opportunities to grow professionally.
- Ability to actively participate in physical education activities, stand and move for extended periods, and supervise students in both indoor and outdoor settings.
- Flexibility in work schedule to support school events and activities.
- Extensive interpersonal interaction with colleagues, students, families, and outside professionals.
Pay range and compensation package
$70,304.00- $90,000.00 Annually
