Our client, a boutique professional services firm, is seeking a Tax Manager to take on a highly visible role supporting a diverse portfolio of clients. There is a path to become a Partner at the firm.



Location:
San Rafael, CA. This position is hybrid onsite with some schedule flexibility.



Job Description:
This position blends advanced tax work with elements of business management and client advisory, offering meaningful responsibility and long-term growth potential. The ideal candidate is technically strong, client-focused, and interested in building lasting relationships while expanding leadership scope over time.



Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage client engagements, serving as the primary point of contact and ensuring high-quality service delivery
• Review and prepare tax returns across multiple entity types, including individuals and closely held businesses
• Perform comprehensive year-end tax planning and provide proactive advisory support
• Research, analyze, and resolve complex tax and financial issues; translate findings into actionable recommendations
• Review and respond to federal, state, and local tax notices and audits
• Oversee business management activities for select clients, including cash flow reporting, budgeting, payroll, and financial oversight
• Review and supervise accounting write-ups and financial statement preparation
• Manage multiple clients and deadlines simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail
• Supervise, train, and review the work of team members, contributing to talent development and team growth

Requirements:

• Active CPA license
• 5-15 years of relevant experience
• Strong knowledge of tax concepts for individuals and closely held entities
• Solid understanding of general ledger accounting and financial statements
• Experience managing client relationships and supervising staff
• Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with tax preparation software
• Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills

The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, and can participate in medical, dental, and vision benefits as well as the company's 401(k) retirement plan.
