Process Engineer II

The Medtronic Energy and Component Center (MECC) in Brooklyn Center, MN designs, develops, and manufactures the energy components used in implantable devices for a variety of Medtronic businesses. MECC is looking to hire a Process Engineer II with equipment design and process validation experience to join a growing team developing the equipment for Battery and Capacitor manufacturing capacity projects. The Process Engineer II works with the engineering team to design equipment/tooling and develop the processes for custom automated, servo-mechanical, electromechanical, and/or optical systems.

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

• Reviews product development requirements for compatibility with processing methods to determine costs and schedules.
• Interacts with product design and development personnel to ensure that processes and designs are compatible.
• May develop and conduct statistical analysis or recommend additions to document work.
• Leads the innovation, development and/or optimization of new manufacturing concepts, processes and procedures for transfer to manufacturing operations.
• This can include scouting and feasibility work, material selection, process and equipment selection, tooling / fixture and equipment installation and assessment of inputs, outputs and alignment to requirements.
• Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control and may develop those techniques including the measurement systems.
• Ensures processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
• Works with equipment team on equipment design, integrator selection and equipment characterization and qualification.
• Completes test method validation (TMV), process characterization, and process validations.

Must Have: Minimum Requirements

• Bachelors degree required
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with 0 years of experience

Nice to Have

• BS Degree in Engineering or a related discipline
• Familiar with related fields of engineering such as electrical, pneumatics, optics/vision, motion control and/or inspection software
• Experience in process feasibility and transfer practices
• Knowledge of Test Method Validation (TMV) for non-automated test methods
• Experience in equipment and process characterization and validation (IQ,QQ, PQ)
• Experience in conducting Design of Experiments (DOE)
• Experience in statistical analysis for process characterization (Minitab, JMP)
• Experience in writing operator instructions and technical documentation/reports
• Knowledge of and application of drafting practices, GD&T and tolerance analysis.
