The Payroll Accountant will play an important role in payroll processing, payroll accounting, reconciliations, tax reporting, month‑end activities, and accounting analysis. What You’ll Do Process bi-weekly payroll for a large, multi-state employee population consisting of both hourly and salaried employees. Prepare and post payroll journal entries into the accounting system. Perform payroll reconciliations and ensure payroll activity is accurately reflected in the general ledger. Reconcile payroll‑related general ledger accounts and investigate discrepancies. Prepare and record month‑end payroll accruals. Reconcile payroll taxes and assist with payroll tax reporting and compliance. Perform accounting analysis and support general accounting activities as needed. Maintain payroll‑related information within the payroll/accounting systems. Prepare reports and provide information in response to internal requests. Assist with month‑end close and other accounting functions. Identify discrepancies and work to resolve payroll and accounting issues in a timely manner. What We’re Looking For Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred; an Associate’s degree may be considered for candidates with strong relevant experience. 3+ years of hands‑on payroll experience, ideally supporting 300+ employees. Strong general accounting and general ledger experience. Experience with payroll reconciliations, payroll accounting, and payroll tax reporting. Experience working with a large‑scale payroll or ERP system. Oracle experience strongly preferred; experience with a comparable enterprise‑level system will be considered. Strong Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office skills. Excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills. Ability to manage confidential payroll and employee information. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with accounting and payroll teams. Ideal Background The ideal candidate will be someone who has worked in a high‑volume payroll environment while also having a solid foundation in general accounting. This position is particularly well suited for a Payroll Accountant, Senior Payroll Specialist, Payroll Analyst, or Accounting professional who has experience bridging payroll and general ledger functions.
