Express Employment Professionals is partnering with a local higher education institution to recruit an Accountant II to support accounting operations with a focus on fixed assets, capital projects, financial reporting, and audit support .

This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional who is detail-oriented, analytical, and interested in working with capital assets, construction projects, and complex financial records.

What You'll Do

• Manage the fixed asset accounting process, including identifying, documenting, recording, reconciling, monitoring, and disposing of long-term assets.
• Maintain the fixed asset subledger and process entries related to gains or losses on asset disposals.
• Reconcile fixed asset records to the general ledger and investigate discrepancies.
• Coordinate with internal departments to ensure assets are properly tagged, recorded, and maintained.
• Assist with periodic physical asset inspections and address discrepancies.
• Manage accounting activities related to capital and campus projects, including project setup, monitoring, and closeout.
• Maintain capital project funds and process Construction in Process (CIP) entries.
• Work with Finance, project managers, facilities, and operations teams to monitor project financial performance and identify variances.
• Prepare and process journal entries and accounting adjustments.
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
• Prepare audit documentation and assist with audit workpapers.
• Maintain compliance with organizational policies, fund accounting requirements, and applicable regulations.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field , or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 1-3 years of experience in accounting, finance, budgeting, or a related area.
• Strong attention to detail and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel , including formulas, data sorting, and PivotTables.
• Basic understanding of GAAP or fund accounting principles .
• High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial information.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with fixed assets, capital projects, construction accounting, or fund accounting .
• Understanding of GAAP and GASB .
• Experience with reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end/year-end close.
• Experience supporting audits or preparing audit documentation.
• Experience working with an ERP or accounting system.
