Position Summary

The Facilities & Grounds Supervisor is a working supervisory position responsible for maintaining the safety, cleanliness, appearance, functionality, and overall condition of Peace River Wildlife Center’s education facilities and grounds. This position oversees preventative and corrective maintenance of buildings, wildlife residents habitats, grounds, equipment, vehicles, and campus infrastructure while coordinating maintenance volunteers, contractors, and outside service providers.

The Facilities & Grounds Supervisor works collaboratively with Animal Care staff and other departments to maintain a professional, well-kept campus that supports exceptional wildlife care and provides a safe and welcoming environment for visitors, staff, and volunteers.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesFacilities Maintenance

• Supervise and perform preventive and corrective maintenance of PRWC buildings, grounds, habitats, infrastructure, and equipment; conduct routine inspections, identify maintenance and safety needs, and troubleshoot, repair, or coordinate repairs to building, utility, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.Perform general carpentry, painting, drywall, minor construction, and other facility repairs as needed.
• Maintain the functionality and cleanliness of water features and related infrastructure.
• Maintain and organize the Maintenance & Care Building, maintenance shop, storage rooms, supply areas, and related workspaces.
• Maintain the off-site flight cage and other PRWC facilities as assigned.
• Maintain PRWC tools, equipment, vehicles, golf carts, utility vehicles, trailers, and maintenance machinery in safe working order. As applicable.
• Develop and maintain preventative maintenance schedules, service records, and other maintenance documentation.
• Coordinate with the Operations Manager regarding outside vendors, contractors, and specialized repair services.
• Assist with renovations, exhibit improvements, contractor work, and facility improvement projects.
• Work within established departmental and organizational budgets, monitor maintenance and custodial expenses, and submit purchase requests as required.

Wildlife Habitat & Grounds Maintenance

• Maintain the cleanliness, structural integrity, safety, and functionality of wildlife resident habitats and related infrastructure, including fencing, gates, shelters, perches, barriers, and other non-husbandry components, in coordination with Animal Care staff. Ensure habitats, walkways, and public spaces are safe, presentable, and prepared for daily visitor use.
• Assist with and oversee campus grounds and exterior maintenance, including landscaping, irrigation monitoring, drainage, pressure washing, walking paths, , and seasonal projects.
• Maintain a professional and attractive overall campus appearance.

Custodial Responsibilities

• Maintain and oversee the cleanliness and sanitation of offices, classrooms, restrooms, kitchens, break rooms, meeting spaces, visitor areas, maintenance areas, and other indoor facilities.
• Develop and maintain custodial and cleaning schedules to ensure facilities remain clean, safe, sanitary, and visitor-ready.
• Inspect facilities regularly to identify custodial and sanitation needs.
• Maintain inventories of cleaning supplies, custodial equipment, and maintenance materials.
• Coordinate waste and recycling services and support appropriate handling procedures for regulated waste managed by Animal Care staff.

Volunteer & Contractor Coordination

• Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and provide day-to-day direction to maintenance volunteers.
• Communicate volunteer concerns, staffing needs, and operational issues to the Operations Manager.
• Coordinate contractors and outside service providers as assigned.
• Supervise maintenance staff, if applicable.

Safety, Emergency Preparednesss & Compliance

• Respond promptly to facility emergencies, safety concerns, equipment failures, and urgent maintenance needs.
• Be available for evening, weekend, and holiday facility emergencies when operationally necessary, coordinating with the Operations Manager and/or appropriate Animal Care leadership.
• Follow applicable OSHA requirements and PRWC safety policies and procedures.
• Assist with hurricane preparedness, emergency response, facility recovery, and post-storm repairs.
• Support compliance with applicable ADA requirements, Florida building and fire codes, and wildlife facility regulations as they relate to facilities and grounds.
• Maintain or coordinate maintenance of generators, fire safety systems, and security systems.

General Responsibilities

• Monitor maintenance, custodial, and facility supply inventories and submit purchase requests as needed.
• Maintain organized maintenance records and documentation.
• Communicate effectively with staff, volunteers, contractors, vendors, and visitors.
• Coordinate priorities and projects with the Operations Manager.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Supervisor Expectation

This is a hands-on, working supervisory position. In addition to coordinating maintenance activities and volunteers, the Facilities & Grounds Supervisor is expected to personally perform maintenance, repairs, custodial tasks, groundskeeping, equipment operation, and other facility work as necessary to support daily operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred; equivalent combination of education, training, and hands-on experience will be considered.
• Experience in general maintenance, facilities, property maintenance, construction, landscaping, custodial work, or a related field preferred.
• General working knowledge of building, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, landscaping, irrigation, and related maintenance systems.
• Ability to safely operate common maintenance equipment, machinery, hand tools, and power tools.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, work independently, and respond effectively to changing operational needs.
• Ability to communicate professionally and work cooperatively with staff, volunteers, contractors, vendors, and the public.
• Supervisory or volunteer leadership experience preferred.
• Valid Florida driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Physical Requirements Physical RequirementsAbility to frequently lift and carry heavy materials and equipment, up to 75 pounds.Ability to work indoors and outdoors in Florida heat, humidity, rain, and other weather conditions.Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and to bend, kneel, reach, climb ladders, and work on uneven terrain.Ability to safely operate maintenance equipment, machinery, and power tools.Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, and outside normal business hours when operational needs or emergencies require.Work Schedule

Full-time (Monday-Friday) with scheduling based on operational needs. Flexibility is required for occasional evenings, weekends, holidays, special events, emergencies, and hurricane preparation or recovery.

Reporting Relationship

Reports directly to the Operations Manager and works collaboratively with Animal Care staff and other PRWC departments.
