Job Description

This full-time Biomedical Technician role supports a busy laboratory site by installing, maintaining, and repairing biomedical and laboratory equipment, ensuring that all instrumentation operates safely, accurately, and reliably. The position focuses on lab setup, equipment calibration, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting across multiple facilities, contributing directly to high-quality testing and research activities.

Responsibilities

• Set up laboratories and configure test equipment for studies to ensure all systems are ready for use and meet operational standards.

• Provide repairs to laboratory test systems, including biomedical and medical equipment, by identifying issues and restoring proper function.

• Maintain environmental chambers to ensure stable and accurate environmental conditions for testing and studies.

• Maintain all fluid delivery pumps, including inspection, adjustment, and repair to support consistent and precise fluid handling.

• Maintain lab facilities, keeping workspaces organized, functional, and compliant with applicable procedures and guidelines.

• Handle regulated materials, potential biohazard materials, and toxic chemicals using proper labeling, dilution, and safe handling practices.

• Calibrate laboratory equipment such as balances, pH meters, and pipettes to ensure accurate measurements and reliable test results.

• Manage samples by labeling, sorting, and storing them correctly to maintain traceability and sample integrity.

• Prepare buffers and other basic laboratory solutions according to established protocols and specifications.

• Monitor temperatures of equipment, chambers, and storage units to maintain required conditions and document any deviations.

• Track equipment usage to support maintenance planning, asset management, and compliance with internal procedures and external standards.

• Document new equipment, including recording specifications, entering information into tracking systems, and supporting validation activities as needed.

• Clean laboratory equipment regularly to maintain performance, extend equipment life, and support a safe and orderly lab environment.

• Sanitize laboratory equipment and areas in accordance with established procedures to reduce contamination risk and support safe operations.

• Perform calibration of lab equipment on a routine schedule, following documented methods and maintaining calibration records.

• Carry out preventive maintenance on biomedical and lab instrumentation to reduce downtime and prevent unexpected failures.

• Troubleshoot equipment issues using test equipment and diagnostic techniques to identify root causes and implement effective repairs.

• Test and calibrate equipment parts to determine what needs to be repaired or replaced, ensuring equipment operates within required specifications.

• Support adherence to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) and other applicable standards by following established procedures and maintaining accurate documentation.

Essential Skills

• Experience testing and calibrating equipment parts to determine necessary repairs or replacements.

• Hands-on experience with biomedical and lab instrumentation, including setup, operation, and maintenance.

• Ability to perform calibration and preventive maintenance on a wide range of laboratory and medical equipment.

• Strong troubleshooting and repair skills for medical and test equipment in a laboratory environment.

• Familiarity with handling regulated materials, biohazard materials, and toxic chemicals using proper labeling and dilution practices.

• Capability to manage samples through accurate labeling, sorting, and storage.

• Competence in preparing buffers and basic laboratory solutions following established protocols.

• Ability to monitor temperatures and other environmental conditions critical to laboratory operations.

• Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) principles and willingness to work within regulated procedures.

• Attention to detail in documenting new equipment, calibration activities, maintenance, and equipment usage.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working with environmental chambers and fluid delivery pumps in a laboratory or biomedical setting.

• Background in supporting multiple facilities or labs within close proximity.

• Comfort using various test equipment and diagnostic tools to evaluate performance and identify issues.

• Strong organizational skills to maintain lab facilities and equipment in a clean and orderly manner.

• Ability to follow detailed technical procedures and safety guidelines consistently.

• Willingness to work occasional overtime and scheduled weekend shifts to support continuous operations.

Work Environment

This role is based on-site at a laboratory complex that operates 365 days a year and supports three adjacent facilities. The position follows a full-time schedule, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with overtime as needed and weekend work approximately once a month to support ongoing operations. The environment involves regular interaction with biomedical and laboratory instrumentation, environmental chambers, fluid delivery pumps, and a variety of test equipment. Work is performed in controlled laboratory spaces where regulated, biohazard, and toxic materials may be present, and strict safety and labeling protocols must be followed. The setting is professional and fast-paced, with a strong focus on equipment reliability, accurate calibration, preventive maintenance, and adherence to GMP and other applicable standards. Employees typically wear appropriate laboratory attire and personal protective equipment suited to working with lab instruments and materials.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Easton, MD.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
