We are seeking an experienced Senior Accountant for a long-term contract opportunity in Newington, Connecticut. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented and hands-on accounting professional who can take ownership of key accounting processes while helping ensure the accuracy and integrity of the organization’s financial records. The Senior Accountant will play an important role in supporting day-to-day accounting operations, managing month-end close activities, and preparing detailed account reconciliations with a strong focus on balance sheet integrity.

In this position, you will work closely with internal stakeholders to maintain general ledger accuracy, analyze account activity, identify and resolve discrepancies, and support timely financial reporting. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in core accounting functions, a solid understanding of reconciliation and close processes, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities:

• Lead recurring close activities by preparing and reviewing schedules, tracking deadlines, and helping ensure timely completion of monthly accounting deliverables.

• Prepare and post journal entries with clear supporting documentation to maintain accurate and complete financial records.

• Oversee general ledger activity by analyzing account balances, researching discrepancies, and resolving variances promptly.

• Perform detailed account reconciliations and follow through on outstanding items to support clean and accurate reporting.

• Complete bank reconciliations on a regular basis, investigate unmatched transactions, and coordinate corrections as needed.

• Support financial reporting accuracy by validating transactions, maintaining organized records, and strengthening day-to-day accounting controls.

• Proven experience working in a senior-level accounting role with hands-on responsibility for month-end close activities.
• Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting and preparation of journal entries in a detail-focused finance environment.
• Demonstrated ability to complete account reconciliations accurately and investigate variances thoroughly.
• Practical experience handling bank reconciliations and resolving exceptions in a timely manner.
• High attention to detail with the ability to manage deadlines and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced setting.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with accounting and business partners.
