Medical Finance Support Specialist – Part Time Position Summary The role of the Revenue Cycle Support Specialist is to maximize workflow efficiency in the Bone & Joint Institute Business Office by assisting with incoming calls, claim follow up and minor aspects of the revenue cycle. Assisting with charge entry as needed when adequately trained. Position Requirements Must be a high school graduate or equivalent, have PC and calculator experience, and have good communication skills to discuss account financials with patients. Prior experience in a medical office setting with a moderate knowledge of the revenue cycle, good customer service and interpersonal skills. Job requires close attention to detail. Proficiency with Athena Health EHR system, Allscripts EHR systems, and Phreesia for patient intake and payments. Workplace: Business Office. Requires sitting for prolonged periods, viewing the computer screen, and having a clear, understandable telephone voice. Key Results Assist phone patients with basic account information or requests (e.g., account balance, itemized bills, insurance verification). May include forwarding incoming calls to the appropriate staff member or Financial Counselor as needed. Work assigned claims worklist (bucket) accurately and timely. Utilize EMR to document all information discussed with each patient encounter. Competently understand and work the EMR and billing systems to assist with charge entry for E/M charges after proper training, as needed. Participate in scheduled Power-Hour and Business Office Touchpoint meetings by self-reporting current state. Use the EMR software workstation to scan source documentation. Provide support to indirect team members with additional billing/business office questions. Help facilitate claim follow-up with payers and proactively avoid claim rejections and denials (e.g., daily verifying authorizations prior to service date). Collect accurate patient payments and set up payment plans as needed in designated EMR systems. Maintain open communication with all staff members; interact with staff/patients professionally and constructively regarding all business office needs. Report concerns requiring attention to manager or director. Present solutions when presenting concerns or problems. Participate in departmental meetings/huddles and recommend improvement opportunities. Perform other duties as assigned by manager and seek out job duties during downtime.
