Pay Scale $144,000 - $204,900 / Year Worksite Various; primary at Hillcrest Medical Center with travel to La Jolla as needed. Appointment Type Career Appointment Percent 100% Union HX Contract Total Openings 1 Work Schedule Days, 8‑Hour Shifts, Monday‑Friday Description The Clinical Informatics Specialist functions as a nursing informatics specialist supporting clinical operations through the design, implementation, and evaluation of data‑driven workflows and systems. The role focuses on patient acuity and classification processes to support staffing optimization, quality outcomes, and patient safety. Responsibilities include collaborating with clinical and operational leaders on scheduling initiatives, evaluating nurse documentation practices (including float and contract RN compliance), and leveraging electronic health record (EHR) systems to enhance clinical decision‑making and operational efficiency. The specialist serves as a liaison between nursing, IT, and leadership to ensure alignment between clinical practice and informatics solutions. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in health care information technology, computer science, or related area, and/or equivalent combination of experience/training. Five (5) or more years of relevant experience. Extensive knowledge of 1–2 areas of focus in clinical informatics specialty areas, including controlled terminology, clinical workflows, user interface optimization, clinical decision support, rules development, data integration and mining, clinical ontologies and technology adoption. In‑depth knowledge of all relevant clinical informatics software and systems used in the UC health care system and of the associated policies, regulations, and standards. Advanced organizational and project management skills, with the ability to lead a team, prioritize tasks, and deliver projects on schedule. Advanced interpersonal communication skills to convey technical information to all levels of clinical users and to provide training as needed. Advanced problem‑resolution skills for complex issues, including rapid diagnosis and implementation of solutions. Advanced analytical skills in documentation and reporting, capable of applying metrics, designing and running queries, and producing sophisticated reports for management. Ability to serve as a technical leader and information resource, collaborating with senior staff to advise on policy, functionality, system efficiency, upgrades, business analytics, and industry trends. Preferred Qualifications Master’s degree (MSN), Nursing Informatics, or related field. Three‑to‑five (3–5) years of clinical nursing experience. Experience with patient acuity systems and staffing models. Certification in Nursing Informatics (RN‑BC). Experience with scheduling/workforce management systems.
