Staff Ecologist

Arcadis is seeking a mid-level Staff Ecologist/Planner/Environmental Scientist to join our west coast Enviro Socio Permitting team. The successful candidate will support the development of desktop reviews, lead field data collection for wetland/waterbody delineations, endangered species habitat assessments, and environmental assessments, and prepare reports documenting field data collection. The role primarily supports Arcadis’ planning and permitting team working on linear infrastructure and renewable energy projects across the intermountain west (Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, Arizona and New Mexico). Responsibilities Manage desktop environmental assessments using current assessment technologies and methods to identify potential permitting requirements and support the development of permitting strategy. Use strong technical writing and communications skills to develop technical reports, work plans, memoranda, and other environmental documents to support permitting, including preparation of regulatory permit application packages (e.g., U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Clean Water Act Section 404 permit applications, Section 401 Water Quality Certification applications, Rivers and Harbors Act Section 408 review requests, and Section 402 National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System permit applications). Provide task management support to assist with the growth of new and existing client relationships through the delivery of quality work and data. Support or lead agency consultations for threatened and endangered species and develop permitting and survey strategies. Maintain electronic file systems and record keeping using SharePoint and other cloud-based platforms. Conduct field assessments related to ecological aspects of projects, requiring a working knowledge of GPS systems and the ability to walk and conduct fieldwork for long hours, and carry supplies weighing up to 30 pounds. Travel up to 25% of the time. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in biology, ecology, environmental or land use planning or another natural resource related field. Four years of experience in the environmental field. Relevant regional experience in Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, California, Nevada, Idaho, Oregon, and/or Washington. Experience evaluating project compliance with state and federal laws and environmental and regulatory processes—including federal, state, and local regulators such as PUC, PSC, FERC, BLM, USFS, USFWS, USACE—and experience with CEQA and NEPA. Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive reports or permit applications, particularly with linear projects such as utility or pipeline projects. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree and/or three to five years of environmental consulting experience. Experience leading field teams for surveys including wetland determination/delineation surveys, flora/fauna surveys, and habitat assessments, as well as the completion of associated reporting.
