Director, Communications & Content

Overview

The Communications & Content Director (C&CD) is a new role at Sprouts Farmers Market and leads the development and execution of 360o integrated, customer-centric advertising & content plans across all marketing media channels including film, long & short-form content, audio, owned, paid and earned media. & is a consult on programmatic, email, SMS/Push, store, and site/app. The C&CD role is responsible for the acceleration of Sprouts Farmers Market Unaided Awareness and Brand Equity measures through the development and deployment of insight-driven, compelling and highly engaging always-on communications and brand storytelling. The C&CD leader leads a team of Managers and Specialists empowered with the responsibility for creating brand fame, igniting consumers imaginations & driving distinctivity in a highly competitive, fast-paced specialty retail market.

Reporting to the VP, Brand Marketing, this role leads our creative agency roster partnerships to ensure creative output delivers business impact, above average consumer engagement and long-term, sustainable brand equity gains. Leading the team driving brand fame for a business generating approximately $8.8B+ in annual revenue and operating 500+ stores nationwide alongside a growing e-commerce presence, the C&CD oversees internal teams and several external agencies, driving creative excellence, strong business results, and creates a team culture centered on ideas, insights & consumer connection. The role manages a significant multi-million-dollar production budget.

Overview of Responsibilities

Creative & Content Direction

• Create the Sprouts Farmers Market 18-month rolling content & communications plan in partnership with Agencies of Record and Internal creative team.
• A master storyteller with a creative spike in long and short format brand content with a proven track record of consumer engagement.
• Lead concept development and execution of integrated communications across brand strategic pillars achieving or exceeding engagement, response and long-term growth & penetration kpi’s
• Shape, evolve and have creative oversight for SFM brand voice, tone, and core messaging.
• Act as the de facto showrunner for SFM produced film & content programming including AI generated content paid partnerships and integrations, internal and external production shoots.
• Leverage relevant specialist industry connections, cultural insight, and emerging consumer phenomena in food, wellness and beyond to inform forward-thinking creative direction and content innovation.

Collaboration & Teamwork

• Experience leading organizational change/transformation a key skill and to add deep experience with social content as a specific call-out.
• Partner with AOR’s to ensure Creative Briefs are world-class and commercially connected.
• Manage critical delivery dates, seasonal upweights and marketing channel innovations with AOR’s to optimize creative impact.
• Aligning creative work with SFM Brand, Category & Channel strategies and enterprise performance goals
• Lead campaign planning and ensure alignment with VP Brand and CCO on direction, timelines, and deliverables

Team & Agency Leadership

• Lead, mentor, and develop the SFM team to create a communications powerhouse noted to be the thought leader and industry pacesetter in the Wellness space.
• Motivate, inspire and entice people with Influence and other third parties to engage in long-term creative partnerships with SFM.
• Inspire a culture of creativity by inspiring partners to appropriately push boundaries, challenge convention, and elevate the impact of SFM brand communications.
• Full accountability for management of agency partners, leading all-agency collaboration meetings monthly
• Budget accountability for SFM annual Content & Communication production budget.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in film production & design, Creative Writing or related creative field strongly preferred
• 15+ years’ minimum experience in Creative Director roles (Agency or Brand), Executive or Senior Producer/Director Roles (Network or Independent) with strong media & entertainment industry connections
• Experience in leading world-class brand communications teams with a spike in building sustained brand fame and media coverage, brand communications with social currency and high levels of virality.
• Exceptional screenwriting, copy and storytelling skills.
• Deep experience with social media content creation, effectiveness management & strategic integration
• Competency in pitching & presenting to Senior Stakeholders and Executive Board members.
