Organizational Description. North Lawndale Employment Network is a comprehensive workforce development agency on Chicago’s West Side dedicated to advancing the economic outcomes of the community’s residents through innovative employment initiatives, including our social enterprises. In August 2021, North Lawndale Employment Network transitioned to a new campus which features a premier community café for residents and stakeholders. Our Mission. Opportunity. We are seeking a Controller who willreport to the Chief Operating Officer and shall define the process and implement the infrastructure and systems needed to support substantial growth over the next five to ten years. The Controller will continue to build and manage effective and streamlined administrative and financial systems, including accounting, accounts payable/receivable, and financial reporting grants. As a member of the Senior Management Team, the Controller will be a key leader involved in strategic planning, evaluation, and professional development initiatives. We are seeking a Controller with deep expertise in accounting and finance to ensure fiscal management, compliance, and provide future forecasting and projections. Key Responsibilities Lead finance and accounting departmental functions for NLEN and its social enterprises (the beelove cafe and Sweet Beginnings) including AP, AR, and Grants Management Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow for administration, existing programs, and proposed new programs Supervise Sr Director of Grants Administration and Accounting and Director of Accounting Prepare monthly and annual financial reporting materials and metrics for NLEN Board of Directors and staff leaders Provide custom reports and dashboards to leaders from our Sage Intacct and Ramp systems Coordinate all independent and funding source audit activities Review organizational contracts and monitor fiscal and regulatory compliance Develop and administer an organizational procurement policy Manage RFP processes and vendor relationships Act as liaison to banks and other external stakeholders Provide training as needed to staff and leaders on budget management and monitoring to ensure understanding of financial reports and related matters Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to various governmental entities such as SAM.GOV, GATA etc Maintain organizational admin, annual reporting, certificates of good standing, exemption status, IRS reporting, 990 filing, and other federal and state requirements to ensure compliance Lead annual budgeting process and audit cycles Lead finance committee and board reporting for financial standing, analyses and projections Oversee the month end close and the fiscal year end close processes Work closely with the Sr Director of Grants Administration and Accounting to ensure monthly allocation workbook updating and grant stewardship Lead data and file management, including the integration of financial systems to Salesforce Administrative Leadership and Management Serve as a business partner on NLEN’s financial and budgeting with an eye to continuously developing and improving systems. Building the departmental processes and workflows Printing and signing checks and ensuring deposits Manage banking and organizational card use Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferably with CPA; Excellent people skills, with experience collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team. Demonstrated experience and proficiency in financial management and accounting utilizing Sage Intacct and Ramp Software, ideally in the nonprofit sector. Experience should include audit, compliance, budget, projections, financial modeling, dashboard creation, and resource development. Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and developing KPIs, goals, and standard operating procedures for finance Creating efficiencies, and guiding investment in people and systems Proven effectiveness leading professionals in finance and accounting Technologically savvy, with an ability to point to examples of having worked with IT staff to develop and implement new processes and systems that increased efficiency in a fast-moving environment. Flexible and a self-starter; able to multi-task while also being highly detail oriented. Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a commitment to NLEN’s mission is strongly recommended.
