Sanitation Specialist-Conversion Only

Main Role:

Responsible for systematic cleaning throughout the factory (inside and out), offices, cafeteria, and restrooms. This also includes the factory production floor (i.e., overhead piping, vents, walls, drains, etc.). Accountable for maintaining safety standards for chemical handling and Master Sanitation tasks as assigned. Assists Operations with supply chemicals for Sanitation cycles and calibrating dispensing unit on a regular basis.

Role and Activity

• Clean Sensory Room after session has been conducted. No ice cream present on counter. Ensure cardboard, trash & ice cream is thrown out (appropriate trash bins). Sanitizer cabinet should be always stocked.
• Maintain the Storage Room shelves and Production Line bins and cabinets with the necessary supplies and PPE for Operations. They must have enough for the entire scheduled shift (hair masks, gloves, bags, etc.). Lint rollers need to be maintained throughout the factory as well.
• Maintain the soaps and sanitizers in every Hand-Wash station throughout the factory. Monitor for chemical output and keep them clean throughout each shift. This includes the surrounding areas.
• Scrub assigned drains for each Hand-Wash station when scheduled. Remove all debris that falls in and around them to prevent overflow.
• Clean and sanitize assigned areas of the factory as part of the Master Sanitation schedule. Equipment carts and foamers need to be clean and organized. Chemical jugs need to be emptied and placed on the storage shelves.
• Maintain the production floor & drain brushes properly. Adhere to the factory color code policy.
• Ensure the plastic, trash, paper towel pieces, cardboard and other miscellaneous items are disposed of in their proper bins. Production floors must be maintained throughout each shift.
• Empty aerosol can dispensers as needed in their appropriate locations.
• Adhere to drain cleaning schedule as it applies to the Master Sanitation program. Proper PPE must be always worn. Includes multiple areas throughout the factory.
• Maintain, repair, and always replace the paper towel dispensers, especially at the production floor entrances.
• Ensure the hand sanitizers get replenished when empty. Repair or replace them as needed.
• Remove any damaged equipment and items from the factory floor and dispose of them in appropriate location.
• Sanitize flat surfaces throughout the factory. Includes multiple areas such as: office tables, countertops, break room tables, sink and coffee areas, electrical panels, operator desks/computers, etc.
• Maintain an accurate min/max inventory of cleaning and factory equipment. This includes materials, tools, and supplies used throughout the factory.
• Trained and qualified in factory CIP cleaning procedures and policies. Required to work with Production and Quality departments in addressing environmental issues throughout the factory.
• Ensures that unauthorized associates do not tamper with the chemicals in the chemical room or attempt to dispense chemicals manually.
• Maintain all chemical jugs/spray bottles. Ensure they are labeled correctly and ensures we do not run out of new labels for the factory.
• Maintain the Men's/Women's locker room clean. This includes the janitorial cleaning of the toilets, stalls, sinks and trash bins. Includes:
• Main factory restrooms
• Front office restrooms
• North Warehouse restrooms

Quality Lab

• Ensure locker room floors get swept and mopped. Dust off the top of the lockers and all flat surfaces.
• Conduct a monthly deep cleaning of the locker rooms: caustic chemical scrub, manual scrubbing and sanitize from top to bottom.
• Ensure the overhead piping and vents in locker rooms get dusted and the vents get cleaned as assigned on the Master Sanitation schedule.
• Maintain the Cafeteria area clean. This includes wiping down tables, throwing out trashes, sweeping/mopping the floors and cleaning the microwave and sink areas.
• Conduct a weekly cleaning of the Maintenance boiler room from top to bottom. This includes the main maintenance shop, sink, behind cabinets and overheads.
• Conduct weekly cleaning of the Electrical room (behind Line 8/above the Lab). This includes dusting and wiping down panels.
• Conduct a weekly cleaning of the Maintenance Frigo room from top to bottom. This includes the main panels, and entire floor.
• Conduct a weekly cleaning of the Factory Parts Warehouse from top to bottom. This includes dusting the entire warehouse, shelves and disposing of waste appropriately.
• Conduct daily cleaning of the Northwest and Northeast warehouses. This includes the white lines and main driveways for forklift drivers and driving the duster outside to keep the area dirt-free and presentable.
• Conduct weekly cleaning of the roof walkway areas that pertain to production. Includes rinsing, scrubbing, and post rinsing.
• Conduct regular cleaning of the Blackstone Street parking lot using an assigned blower.
• Conduct daily floor cleaning with Floor Scrubbers. This includes:

1. Product Floor main walkways
2. Drystock receiving area drive/walkways
3. Shipping drive/walkways
4. Maintain factory hot water hoses. Repair and replace leaks using the correct tools throughout the factory as assigned by shift. Conduct regular audits with direct supervisor.
5. Conduct regular perimeter walks with direct supervisor to ensure the outside of the factory is always presentable.
6. Includes other tasks as assigned.

Communication

1. Always develops and maintains a professional attitude.
2. Communicates with team professionally and executes thorough pass downs daily with outgoing/incoming shift.
3. Uses effective interactive skills and communication to uphold cleaning standards as scheduled on the Master Sanitation program. Meets the needs of the team as a whole.
4. Communicates all problems and concerns to appropriate personnel (Supervisor, QA, Maintenance, Production, etc.). Documents completed tasks accordingly and completes all assigned forms before leaving for the day.

Safety & Quality

• Always follows all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and good housekeeping practices.

• Use of appropriate personal protective equipment including steel-toed shoes, face shield, hearing protection, etc.

• Follows correct Lock Out, Tag Out (LOTO) policy and procedures where needed. Never places any body parts in moving machinery or hazardous materials.

• Reports and follows up to ensure that safety items are resolved within the factory (includes leaking hoses/pumps, storage of chemical, broken sinks/toilets, etc.).

• Follows proper lifting techniques and ergonomics.

• Performs safety checks on E-stops, pull-cords and eye wash stations. Reports anything not within specifications.

• Ensures that all guards are in place on equipment where required.

• Uses correct chemicals in proper applications.

• Organizes all chemicals, tools, etc. in designated locations in the restrooms and chemical warehouse.

• Never compromises on food safety and always complies with all applicable regulatory requirements.

• Reports quality concerns to direct Supervisor and Quality Assurance Department.

Environmental

• Takes action(s) to avoid spills when using chemicals to avoid water pollution.

• Disposes of empty containers appropriately when using liquid cleaning chemicals and granular type cleaners. Containers must be triple rinsed.

• Mixes chemicals only when specified to avoid unnecessary air pollution, chemical reactions and potential safety incidents.

• Disposes of waste appropriately, after approval from Safety, Health and Environmental team. Recycles materials when possible.

• Avoids allowing chemical residue to flow down to the floor drains and files reports when/if they do.

• Contacts Environmental Personnel or Facilities when there is a chemical spill to assist in the immediate cleanup of the spill.

• Understands all environmental, safety, and hazard (HAZCOM) aspects of the position and follows standard procedures related to these as outlined on the SHE sheet.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

• Chemical handling, CIP Sanitation and Janitorial experience preferred

• Inventory control/handling preferred

• Must work autonomously with limited supervision and be results driven

• Ability to troubleshoot and repair minor mechanical issues (use of basic tools)

• Must manage time responsibly to complete assigned tasks on a regular schedule

• People skills and training skills preferred

• Ability to work side by side with Production and Quality to resolve issues and make improvements

• Work cross-shifts when necessary for business-needs purposes

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION

• Understand verbal and written instructions in English.

• Must follow safety rules and procedures including the wearing of safety PPE where appropriate.

• Must observe Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Tulare Operations Center policies.

• Must be able to move around, to and from one's designated work area on concrete and dairy brick surfaces which are often uneven, wet, and slippery. This includes ladders, scissor lifts and boom lifts, inside and outside the factory.

• Work every scheduled day and arrive at workstation before the scheduled start time.

• Communicate effectively with various support groups, supervisors, and team members as assigned.

• Detect and understand warning lights, buzzers, alarms, or instruments indicating hazardous conditions or circumstances which may cause equipment or product loss and physical harm.

• Must be able to work in a wet environment.

• Must be able to grip/use a low-pressure hot water hose/nozzle (80-100 lbs. of pressure) for 30 minutes to 1-hour periods.

• Lift up to 60 lbs. (material boxes, equipment, parts) from floor level to a height of 3 to 4 feet high.

• Use various hand tools for cleaning and equipment repair/replacement. Includes floor scrubbers and wet/dry shop-vacs.

• Must be able to climb and descend ladders. Working at heights certified for overhead cleaning and hose repair.

• Work in temperatures ranging from 35° F - 100° F (depending on time of year) inside and outside the factory.

• Must possess the ability to understand verbal and written safety and chemical handling instructions.

• Must be able to hold manual dexterity and strength to operate a high-pressure hose and use tools in equipment disassembly and reassembly.

WORK ENVIRONEMENT


In this position, the employee will regularly work with and around others; in a wet and/or humid environment; in areas of high noise level; and around mechanical, electrical, and pressurized equipment. The work is fast paced.


The position involves frequent exposure to nuts and other potential allergens.


The pay scale for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. At Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The pay range for prospective employees in this role is between (please mention the pay range is $23.06 per hour.
