Distribution Planning Engineer — Growth & Feasibility

We are seeking an experienced engineer (II-IV) for end‑to‑end electrical distribution planning, technical analysis, and project delivery support for utility and energy clients. The role blends system planning, environmental documentation, client interaction, and project management, with accountability for quality, schedule, and budget on assigned initiatives. Key Responsibilities Lead and contribute to short‑term construction planning and long‑range system planning initiatives, supporting development through final delivery. Deliverables may include technical drawings, system diagrams, engineering analyses, planning databases, reports, visual materials, and plan amendments. Support project scheduling and cost planning for system planning efforts. Develop distribution and substation technical studies such as feeder segmentation, protection coordination, relay settings, and fault location analysis. Produce system load forecasts and planning‑level impact assessments. Review monthly system performance data and oversee routine updates to load information, ensuring accuracy of operating summaries, voltage and regulator activity, capacitor operation metrics, and substation performance reports. Perform arc flash hazard evaluations and provide clear recommendations related to PPE requirements, approach boundaries, and safe operating practices. Prepare service extension and supply designs for new customers, subdivisions, and energy development projects. Provide technical input and documentation support for regulatory and certificate‑related applications as required. Assist with technical specifications and acquisition of high‑voltage equipment when project scope requires. Environmental & Regulatory Deliverables Manage the preparation of environmental documentation from initiation through submission, including schedule control, coordination with stakeholders, mitigation development, governing body reporting, and final regulatory filings. Project & Proposal Management Manage assigned planning projects from initiation through close‑out, including scope control, coordination of changes, and quality review of all deliverables produced by project staff. Break down project scope into defined tasks with assigned hours and collaborate with leadership to allocate resources appropriately. Develop and manage project schedules, proactively identifying and addressing risks, resource challenges, or delays. Lead project kickoff sessions and ongoing coordination meetings to maintain accountability and progress. Support proposal development by developing accurate scopes, estimates, and pricing, assessing risks, and presenting proposals when needed. Client & Stakeholder Engagement Serve as a primary point of contact for assigned clients, maintaining consistent and professional communication throughout the project lifecycle. Represent both the firm and the client during meetings with external stakeholders such as property owners, consultants, and construction partners. Ensure engineering work aligns with client standards and expectations, including preparation of scopes, schedules, and budgets for leadership review. Foster long‑term working relationships with client counterparts and act as a liaison between engineering professionals and project stakeholders. Leadership & Professional Expectations Act as a technical resource within the planning group, providing guidance on advanced methodologies and emerging practices. Monitor industry developments and regulatory changes and proactively recommend process or technical improvements. Maintain thorough project records including calculations, design decisions, correspondence, and supporting documentation. Communicate clearly and frequently with project teams, management, and clients to avoid bottlenecks. Complete daily time tracking accurately and support other duties aligned with business needs. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited institution Minimum of three years of experience focused on electric distribution system planning Professional Engineer (PE) license (preferred) Hands‑on experience with distribution planning software such as CYME, Synergi, SKM, ETAP, Milsoft, or WindMil Strong analytical abilities with the capacity to clearly convey complex technical information in both written and verbal formats Competetive salary commensurate with experience and licensure #J-18808-Ljbffr LVI Associates
