Since the early 1990s, Shimmick has been self-performing electrical scopes for infrastructure projects. In 2025 the Electrical Division rebranded to Axia Electric, a subsidiary to Shimmick Construction. Axia offers electrical, instrumentation, and process controls expertise for water and wastewater treatment; dams and locks; mass transit and rail; alternative energy; power generation and transmission; and commercial building projects. Our ability to self-perform this specialty offers additional value and enables us to better control cost and schedule for projects with major electrical and process mechanical scopes. Axia Electric, headquartered in Riverside, California, focuses on large public owners in several states, across water resources, water treatment, transportation and transit markets. Over the past decade, the division has grown tremendously, securing major projects, including the $350 million North City Pure Water Facility ( in San Diego and the $235 million EVMWD Regional Water Reclamation Facility Expansion Project in Lake Elsinore, CA.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

• Manage assigned projects or project phases, including planning, execution, budget performance, schedule adherence, subcontractor coordination, and client communications to ensure successful project delivery.

• Proactively identify project risks, issues, and opportunities; develop and implement effective mitigation strategies and corrective actions to maintain project objectives related to safety, cost, quality, and schedule.

• Lead and coordinate internal and external project teams, ensuring alignment among engineering, procurement, construction, project controls, and client stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

• Monitor project performance, resource utilization, and financial results, providing accurate forecasting, reporting, and recommendations to project leadership.

• Mentor Project Engineers and other junior team members while fostering a collaborative, high-performance project environment.

• Support contract administration, change management, procurement activities, and client relationship management to achieve project and business objectives.

• May directly supervise project engineers, project coordinators, and other project support personnel, while providing oversight and direction to multidisciplinary project teams.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• BA/BS degree + 4 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience supporting heavy civil construction projects in the water/wastewater, mass transit, and power generation markets.

• Experience performing electrical engineering calculations, analyses, and technical studies.

• Experiencereviewingelectricalsubmittals,RFIs,constructiondocuments,andcommissioningactivities.

• Working knowledge of electrical power distribution equipment, including switchgear, transformers, panelboards, generators, UPS systems, and related infrastructure.

• Ability to interpret and review P&IDs, control schematics, electrical single-line diagrams, and system drawings for I&C, fire alarm, HVAC controls, and security systems.

• Experience with the construction, inspection, installation, and testing of electrical systems, including lighting, medium- and high-voltage equipment, grounding systems, and cable installation activities.

• Knowledge of current industry quality standards and quality control processes; previous Quality Control experience is a plus.

• Detailed knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and NFPA 70E standards.

• Ability to interpret electrical single-line diagrams, block diagrams, wiring diagrams, panel schedules, raceway and cable tray drawings, and electrical support drawings.

• Experience using Accubid for quantity takeoffs, estimating, and bid preparation.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other construction-related software applications.

The salary range for this position is between $125,000 to $160,000 depending on experience and/or education.
