POSITION GUIDE

POSITION: Itinerant Speech Language Pathologist

QUALIFICATION: As set by state certification authorities

REPORTS TO: Building Principals and Special Education Coordinator

JOB GOAL: To assist in reducing or eliminating speech language and/or academic difficulties that interfere with the individual student's ability to derive benefit from the educational program.

Essential Functions :

1. Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication, speech improvement, and language development.

1. Provides a therapeutic and/or academic program to meet individual needs of children with disabilities.

1. Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing and referring suspected and identified children with disabilities.

1. Provides thorough assessment and diagnosis of speech and language impairments (including articulation/phonological disorders, voice disorders, fluency disorders, or language disorders).

1. Provides Child Find information and screening to identify children with disabilities at regular intervals.

1. Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.

1. Provides appropriate programs to meet individual needs.

1. Collaborates with general education, special education teachers, and other school staff members concerning special education.

1. Provides information, support and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.

1. Provides inservice education and serves as a consultant to teachers and school staff members concerning special education.

1. Keeps thorough ongoing records, including attendance, for the individual student receiving special education and completes paperwork required.

1. Maintains lists of referred, screened, and eligible students, as well as a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists, and related services.

1. Provides services in locations according to need.

1. Assumes primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies.

1. Assists with conducting district-wide hearing and vision screenings in a timely manner.

1. Maintains records related to federal, state and local regulations.

1. Prepares for and holds meetings relative to federal, state and local guidelines.

Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the Boards policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.


TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 187 day contract. Salary according to proper placement on current salary schedule.
