Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) is responsible for delivering specialized nursing care to critically ill patients with complex conditions such as sepsis, ARDS, renal and heart failure, multi-organ failure, and advanced cardiac support therapies. This role requires expert clinical skills, effective patient assessment, medication administration, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to ensure optimal patient outcomes in a high-acuity environment. The nurse will manage a 1:2 patient ratio, occasionally 1:1, providing care for patients requiring advanced life support technologies. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to critically ill patients with conditions including sepsis, ARDS, renal failure, heart failure, alcohol withdrawal, overdose, multi-organ failure, and post cardiac arrest management.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, including management of advanced supportive devices such as CRRT, EKOS, IABP, ECMO, and Impella.
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and monitor vital signs, laboratory results, and clinical status to detect changes in patient condition.
• Collaborate closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare team members to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation using EPIC electronic health record system.
• Adhere to infection control, safety protocols, and hospital policies to ensure patient and staff safety.
• Provide patient and family education regarding treatment plans and care procedures.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in New York State (license must be in hand).
• Minimum of 2 years critical care nursing experience, preferably in MICU or similar acute care setting.
• Proficient in EPIC electronic medical record system.
• Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning skills.
• Ability to manage patients on advanced life support devices and therapies.
• Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with advanced cardiac and respiratory support technologies such as CRRT, EKOS, IABP, ECMO, and Impella.
• Critical care certification (CCRN) or specialty certification in MICU nursing.

Special Considerations:

• Must have New York State RN license in hand prior to employment.
• Patient assignment ratio typically 1:2, occasionally 1:1 depending on acuity.
• Work environment includes care for patients requiring complex and advanced life support.
• Weekend work required every other weekend.
• Local candidates must reside more than 75 miles from the facility; first-time travelers accepted.

Scheduling:

• Four 12-hour night shifts per week, from 1900 to 0730.
• Weekend shifts scheduled every other weekend.
