Program Assistant

About Her Climb Her Climb is a free, multi-year leadership and college access program for public high school girls from underserved communities across New York City, based at Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism. We recruit girls during their freshman year and walk alongside them through high school, college, and into early career-providing mentorship, industry exposure, wellness resources, and a community of sisters who hold each other accountable. We completed our inaugural Summer Intensive in July 2026 and are now entering our first full year of year-round programming. We are growing-and we are looking for someone who wants to grow with us. The Role The Program Assistant will work closely with the Founder & Executive Director to support the day-to-day execution of Her Climb's programming and operations. This is a hands-on, relationship-centered role for someone who believes deeply in the mission and wants to be part of building something from the ground up. Responsibilities include Supporting Saturday workshops, field trips, and Summer Intensive programming - logistics, setup, and day-of execution Preparing program materials, handouts, and supplies ahead of each session Helping coordinate field trips, guest speakers, and program events from a logistics standpoint Supporting administrative and operational tasks as needed Being a warm, consistent presence for Her Climb scholars during programming Who You Are Deeply committed to educational equity and youth empowerment Organized, reliable, and comfortable in fast-moving environments Warm, professional, and able to build trust with young people quickly Excited to be part of an early-stage nonprofit doing meaningful work A background in education, nonprofit work, youth development, or a related field is a plus, but lived experience and demonstrated commitment to the mission matter just as much. Bonus: familiarity with Columbia University and the New York City public school landscape Time Commitment 5-10 hours per week, with peaks around Saturday workshops and field trips.
